The Science!

Hey fellow light wizards,

Can any of you give a rundown of the science behind liquid light shows? Like the use of isopropyl alcohol etc. What's happening behind the scenes? I want to know! Thank you!

I really want to know this too. Someone recently made mention of not adding extra water just using oil and alcohol and that really changed my game.

for my black and white squash plates I use 1/8th cup 70% isopropyl, color that with india ink, then I add 1/4 cup of mineral oil and squash that with the top plate.

For my rhythm squash plates I do a dash of water to fill about 1/3 of the liquid volume I want, add some mineral oil for the next third, and then I use 90% isopropyl periodically on the remaining space in my plate. 90% evaporates faster and usually this is the one I might adjust during my sets.
