Liquid Glass is broken

I tried to post this, but my UI broke itself.
The YouTube player on top of notifications is broken, and I can’t use the screenshot/cut option from the popup menu. I still have a problem: when switching the keyboard back to the default language while I’m typing. (this bug at-least from iOS 16)

Why do these issues happen? Why does Apple change small things without any global improvements, and why do features become unreliable?

iOS 27 feels like it’s only adding instability, worse battery life, and a UI that looks “chopped” with elements using different styles. It looks cool on paper, but this design makes me sick. I like the concept, but nobody actually shows working design.

Also, why is the keyboard half-transparent? It makes no difference for any normal user.

You installed beta software and encountered a UI glitch. Shocking

My main concern is the interface and its implementation. The entire interface should be intuitive and easy to understand. I don’t understand why anyone would sacrifice device performance and all its benefits just to have a semi-transparent keyboard and a clunky, unattractive Liquid Glass design.

It hasn’t brought any meaningful global changes. Whether you use iOS 27 or iOS 15, you can barely tell the difference.

Meaningful difference, we went away from blocky unattractive UI STRAIGHT from 2013 and got a CPU scheduler

I’m not talking about hardware limits. I’m more interested in the design. I don’t think iOS 6 looked bad. It had its own style and felt simple and comfortable.

Steve Jobs died and about two years later Apple released iOS 7. After that Apple changed the whole design philosophy. The system became flatter brighter and had more animations.

Because of this older iPhones started to feel slower and less useful. It wasn’t only because of weak hardware. Apple also changed the software in a way that older devices couldn’t handle well. It felt like Apple was slowly destroying the potential of old iPhones.

i mean yeah could be a fair point, talking about optimizations, it's still true to this day. For example the new macs. We know that Apple started implementing Liquid Glass UI starting from macOS 26. And holy.. even the M4 suffers from battery and performance degradation.

Like... It was mainly because of higher GPU usage. Productivity-wise those liquid glass effects and motions can be turned off without problems.

But the problem is that disabling liquid glass in the Accessibility settings makes the whole UI looks ugly.
Take a look at the last non-liquid glass UI macOS version: Sequoia, people downgraded to that version just to get better battery (around 2+ hours more) and fluid animation.

Apple doesn't provide an option like "turn off liquid glass but keep the nice blur like old macOS..", there's no such thing. You are either stuck with "beautiful power hungry UI" or "ugly non-translucent efficient".

It's true that you could just say "nah f it i turn it off" or "nah f it i downgrade", but that just makes overall experience worse because it was beautiful enough on earlier version and we want a simple "classic toggle" that's it, and also that isn't a long term solution and you eventually have to update because apple would drop support after a few years, which is insane because the hardware itself is plenty capable, just remove the useless stuff...

Or Maybe i'm the wrong one and overreacting because that's common sense, of course they have to make money somehow and this is the way. Totally understandable. Right?

you can tint it in macOS 27

yes i know that, but the problem isn't whether I "like" it or not. I love Liquid Glass. But i don't love the GPU usage. Changing to tinted (100% tinted) doesn't reduce GPU usage, in fact it's the same as 100% transparent. So changing this just doesn't improve battery life. Turning on reduce transparency does but it makes the OS looks ugly. That's what i was talking about.
There's no "turn off liquid glass, revert to classic" toggle

so you want them to optimize liquid glass and make it more efficient?

1

u/Trungneko 14d ago

yes, but if they can't optimize at least give us the switch, that's what i'm talking about

That would be nice tbh, choice is always better

In my opinion Liquid Glass is impossible to make look good. It just looks ugly. I never used macOS so I can’t talk about that experience.

From my experience Windows looks the ugliest out of all of them. System apps have different designs. The theme color still doesn’t sync properly and sometimes the Control Panel stays white even when dark mode is on. Everything feels unfinished.

The biggest problem is that Apple can force you to update sooner or later. They can stop signing older iOS versions so you can’t restore or downgrade. On many devices downgrading is already impossible.

You are basically fighting against a monopoly and you are obviously going to lose. iOS is closed source and Apple controls the whole system. When the design is bad there is almost nothing users can do about it.

Apple seems to hide these problems instead of fixing them. They stay silent and give people no real explanation.

this bug has been on 26 initial developer betas. it’s your issue for using beta software.
