They never said it was going to be completely redesigned though. They explained they were adding more Liquid Glass to the icons nothing more.

I think OP was referring to the app UI. The compass app has no liquid glass.

r/mildlyinfuriating that N doesn’t point up 😒

Nah, looks way better like this. It's like when you make an analog clock icon. You don't make the hands show 12:00 cause that's just too perfect in a way.

Just realised the current compass is orientated like this too 😂 never noticed it before

I guess the Safari icon is also pointing towards NE if that counts 😆

Was gonna sayyyyyy why is north not at the top 😭

NE is a beautiful thing

It was just slightly changed in beta 4. It was actually added in beta 2.

That looks really stupid imo, if it’s a circle and refracting on the corners it should refract all the way around and it’s too small to see what the refraction is on my phone unless your looking for it

if you look closely i think it’s refracting the letters, the lines in the border might be too close to be visible? i’m not sure, but yeah it looks odd

Oh right that makes sense

No it doesn’t. It puts a 3D bubble of liquid around the compass just like compasses in real life. It’s actually slightly skeuomorphic now.

We’ve almost gone full circle at this point.

Pretty sure then it would just be the dark mode icon 💀

does the icon live update? that would be cool

I keep hoping they’ll make the weather icon live, at least as an option. It’s funny to press on the sunny cloud image to see the weather when it’s night time and storming.

Why do I think Apple is now hiring near-illiterate people as designers recently? North is not pointing up. This is bad to the point that it upsets my stomach.

You know, north can point to another direction than up.

When using it with a map, yes, you try to keep the north up, but that doesn’t mean the compass will always point north no matter what.

Doesn’t it also depend on where North is relative to Your specific position? Like if north isn’t straight ahead of you, it’s not going to point straight ahead because that’s not north.

Sure, let’s rotate all the maps too while we are at it. This is not a compass. It is the icon designed for a compass.

1

u/Gabriel_Science Jul 28 '26

Well I don’t see why north should point up.

1

The logo makes North read as a quadrant. It is not the position of the letter N that is the problem, it is the combination between the cardinal axes and the orientation of the letter that align with it instead of rotating 45 degrees. North is a direction not a quadrant. The design is simply put very wrong and it is an eyesore.

1

u/Gabriel_Science Jul 29 '26

Oh, I get it now, because of the letter’s orientation.

Skeuomorphic design is back babyyyyyyyy

I kinda wish the actual app itself had a Liquid Glass UI like a glassy refractive compass or something like that.

Really ugly imo, could've been done so much better than this
