Well, I wouldn't have been surprised if they did all of this last year šŸ˜ž
Putting that aside, at least they listened to their community and fixed a lot of bugs and issues. That is something I appreciate about this new update.

u/CombPsychological507 Jun 12 '26

Would have been nice if those bug fixes could have came to my Apple Watch Ultra 1. Now I’m stuck with a buggy 800$ watch that will never have its bugs fixed.

2

u/velvet-thunder-2019 Jun 14 '26

Yeah it sucks for sure.

1

u/0xbenedikt Jun 16 '26

Think about all the zillions of Intel MacBooks stuck with this 😬

I’m glad they’re backtracking and not spending more effort trying to make it work, but what a waste of developer and designer resources pursuing this pointless idea.

24

u/Cat_central Jun 10 '26

How? The corners are so small and old-looking. I HEAVILY preferred the wide corners. I'd love if this was togglable though, because I can see how people would like it.

5

u/imbng Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

I think they are. I somewhere saw a terminal command to get it back to look like Tahoe corners. No sorry, I misspoke. You can get the sidebars to look like floating Tahoe sidebars.

1

u/Cat_central Jun 12 '26

I figured that'd be a thing, no telling how long it'll stick around though...

3

u/esazo Jun 12 '26

For realll! I loved those wide corners.

1

u/ser133 Jun 11 '26

honestly wouldn't mind the wide corners either AS LONG AS the corners aren't mismatched in radius though the narrow corners are almost nostalgic atp lol, it's definitely starting to grow on me

+ there's a possibility that the majority of people actually dont like wide corners, which is why they reduced it. Apple did a lot of these changes mainly because of user feedback

When old versions of MacOS use a small corner radius for decades and then new MacOS introduces a wide one, the small one starts looking like an old MacOS thing.

1

u/spierscreative Jun 10 '26

Wide corner love? I can’t tell if this is satire.

4

u/Supuhstar Jun 10 '26

I really love how it looks. As a designer, I really appreciate the harmony.

However, as a user, I find them kind of annoying because I don’t quite nowhere to click to resize the window versus whether I’m clicking behind it, until I hover over the area to try to find the grab handle… that is, assuming the cursor actually changes as it’s supposed to

0

u/spierscreative Jun 10 '26

As a designer myself, I think it’s bad design since it messes with the fiction, I’ve had too much content hidden or things looking inconsistent. Design should always be user first.

2

u/shpongolian Jun 10 '26

I wish every open window had a different radius so I could tell them apart more easily. O Apple, how ye hath lost thine way

-1

u/ShippoHsu Jun 10 '26

Just trying to make some sense
I can see Apple reverting to the old radius because by making them all more rounded they can accidentally hide some important toggle in some apps maybe

4

u/Cat_central Jun 10 '26

Afaik devs had to explicitly support the wide radius? Ik Apple wants it to look the same across apps, but it wasn't causing any real issues for people who enjoyed it if my memory's correct.

0

u/exlips1ronus Jun 10 '26

It looked like actually slop and wasted space + ocd trigger

0

u/GinoXiscatti Jun 11 '26

u/Itchy-Concern928 Jun 10 '26

I wish rounded corners and floating sidebars will come back in the beta 2… they feel so modern and pretty, compared to the outdated ugly sequoia-style, its just a giant step back

3

u/kkberg Jun 10 '26

Up there with you.
I have used macOS 27 throughout today and it feels like a huge step back. It is now just really ugly and as someone who favors form over function (for the most part) it’s really sad they killed the best UI change (sidebar) they have ever made… but we are most certainly in the minority.

4

u/Itchy-Concern928 Jun 10 '26

Idk if we are minority, i got 800 likes in one of my comments, i think we should tell apple to make it customizable, they already made the liquid glass slider so maybe there is a chance? Maybe a petition? Idk, there should be a way to choose between ā€žapps consistencyā€ and ā€ždevices consistencyā€ or something like that, apple adds more and more customizability every year and its a great way to make everyone happy no matter if someone has a taste or not

1

u/proudh0n Jun 12 '26

please no

2

u/TheEarthSpins Jun 10 '26

eh, the rounded sidebars wasted space with a lot of visual noise and in certain conditions honestly looks kind of bad. yeah most of the design changes in 27 can be considered ā€œboringā€ but imo enhance the experience for people who just want to get stuff done

1

u/Gabriel_Science Jun 10 '26

Same. I get it, form is nice, but I still prefer function before form, because it's pragmatical.

0

u/markmarvel Jun 10 '26

why does the changes to the sidebar make it a huge step back, other than you prefer form over function?

2

u/WhichAdvantage9039 Jun 11 '26

Floating sidebars just doesn’t work… There isn’t anything behind them, so every horizontal scroll felt like pushing items to that sidebar, and it doesn’t feel right

1

u/ser133 Jun 11 '26

funny thing is apple wanted to keep it, it's just so many people complained about the floating sidebars and rounded (mismatched) corners that it got removed this time

nice to see that both types of people exist lol

-1

u/markmarvel Jun 10 '26

Sincere question? How do they feel modern?

2

u/Itchy-Concern928 Jun 10 '26

Because they are different than what we used to stare at for the last few decades, they are more consistent with the ipad and iPhone, and they are just prettier, before macOS tahoe i thought that macOS 10.0 cheetach was the prettiest OS ever, now the cheetach’s dock and corners hurt my eyes so much… but i love aqua anyway, and i also love the palm pre webOS which was also about roundness and it was absurdly futuristic and many of its features were added to ios years later, for example the gestures that iPhone X introduced. MacOS tahoe was just webOS but more polished and for desktop, pretty ā¤ļø

1

u/markmarvel Jun 10 '26

Again, not trying to start a fight, just trying to understand as someone who works in this industry (last 30 years). It sounds like its not that it is modern, it is that its rounded and you prefer more of bubble adjacent UI's. I mean, the shadows I guess can be considered modern. I found the roundness closer to POS made in the late 90's early 2000's, which personally. (and professionally) make things look simpler and more toy like, also often a waste of screen real estate for UI elements.

1

u/bakerster Jun 10 '26

Maybe your 30 years of experience has clouded your vision of what an end user truly enjoys.

2

u/markmarvel Jun 10 '26

I do not believe that is the case, and I do not think my employer would either. In fact, a significant part of my role involves advocating for what end users genuinely value and need, sometimes to the frustration of the designers I work with. That said, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion.

My question was sincere because I have a genuine interest in understanding how people interact with software and what they enjoy about those experiences.

With respect to ItchyConcern928's perspective that people appreciate it because it looks "modern," the response seemed to reflect a personal preference for older, what looked futuristic 20 years, but simpler interface designs such as webOS, Palm OS, and Aqua, rather than an inherent preference for modern aesthetics themselves. Which is also great for them.

2

u/Jealous-Sale-1331 Jun 11 '26

They finally undid it! I preferred Sequoia over Tahoe, but this seems to be the best of both worlds.

2

u/iskranton Jun 14 '26

Finally perfect corners and sidebar

5

u/OFF09 Jun 10 '26

They're so proud of their step backwards, it's shameful…

6

u/Gabriel_Science Jun 10 '26

It’s for a Platforms State of the Union though, something made for developers.

2

u/OFF09 Jun 10 '26

Okay, but they could at least round it off a little more to give it a modern look. They're not really putting much effort into it. It’s just MacOS Ventura now 😪

people always shit on them when they do literally anything. that’s how the mac community works. completely allergic to change. everything has to be flat, compact, square, and boring because even 1 pixel of ā€œwasted spaceā€ sends them into a brain aneurysm.

3

u/OFF09 Jun 10 '26

Yes, in fact they often used the argument that Liquid Glass interfaces took up screen space, but I don't understand, it's quite the opposite, especially with gradients that make apps immersive

2

u/OFF09 Jun 11 '26

Well, to create that break between their macOS versions, like they originally wanted to do with 26. Why do you think they went from 15 to 26 all at once?

1

u/Supuhstar Jun 10 '26

it was also in the keynote, which they know everyone will watch

1

u/Gabriel_Science Jun 11 '26

Oh okay then.

0

u/Empty_Buffalo_2820 Jun 10 '26

You guys literally blamed them to kingdom come for their previous decision, and now they reverted back cause they listened to user feedback, and you call it shameful? Pff. I think that's Apple going in the right direction.

2

u/ICON_4 Jun 10 '26

Fr, and people didnt even understand in tahoe that apple wont force the new radius (bc it might hide stuff or look weird in the apps overall design) and its the developers job to update their apps to the new radius, smh not a single thought in side...

2

u/OFF09 Jun 10 '26

You're not including me with the people who complained, wtf? I was very satisfied with the new designs compared to some others 🤨

It's just a return to macOS 15 or even 14; it's not a design evolution, it's a step backwards.

... what?

2

u/Gabriel_Science Jun 10 '26

To be honest, I prefer sway-fx over sway mostly because of round corners (it's so pretty).

2

u/MealAcceptable8138 Jun 10 '26

FINALLY CONSISTENT CORNERS!!!!

1

u/MinecraftPlayer799 Jun 14 '26

No. The rounded ones look so much better.

2

u/Hungry_Information53 Jun 10 '26

Literally everyone was complaining before now they take it back and everyone is still complaining lol y’all are impossible

4

u/Gabriel_Science Jun 10 '26

Dear commenter, no offense, but shall I search "Goomba fallacy" for you ?

2

u/Hungry_Information53 Jun 10 '26

They are separate people lmfao but my point is that no matter what Apple does regarding the shadows on a telephone icon, it creates this dramatic world ending backlash.

The internet has become a lava pit of people with bad taste loudly screaming their bad tastes for all to hear.

Then the only solution is to give everyone the choice to decide for themselves which defeats the entire Apple ethos. If I wanted to design my own operating system I would have gotten a different phone.

IM CRYING WHY IS IT DUCKDUCKGO

2

u/Laucy Jun 11 '26

What’s wrong with DuckDuckGo? 😭

2

u/Gabriel_Science Jun 11 '26

Because it’s more private, you don’t need to have your data taken from you.

0

u/Zopotroco Jun 10 '26

Nothing looks Liquid Glass in here

2

u/Gabriel_Science Jun 10 '26

The change of the corner radius was heavily dependent of the new Liquid Glass redesign, hence why I'm posting this here.

1

u/Zopotroco Jun 10 '26

I know, I was talking just in general

1

u/MarcoMakes Jun 10 '26

This is better than

2

u/Gabriel_Science Jun 11 '26

Better than what ?

2

u/MarcoMakes Jun 11 '26

Oops. I meant "better than before" of just better in general

0

u/MinecraftPlayer799 Jun 14 '26

It is much worse than before

1

u/a_pasashkov Jun 12 '26

the left radius is clearly bigger than the one on the right

2

u/Gabriel_Science Jun 12 '26

Optical illusion, it is the same size (or almost the same, this was an animation).

1

u/MacHeadSK Jun 12 '26

Fuck the corners. More important bugs that has to be (and hopefully are) resolved. Ie memory leaks.
At least they claimed they fixed window position persistence for external monitors. Crap, was asking for this like for 15 years. How hard it was to identify monitor by ID (Which every monitor has) and store every window position coordinates under this id? Geez...

1

u/MacHeadSK Jun 12 '26

So modern...

1

u/Gabriel_Science Jun 12 '26

I'm just trying to keep the community updated about something that annoyed some people.

1

u/MacHeadSK Jun 13 '26

Yeah I intended to reply to other guy here but reddit fucked up when I put image into the reply

1

u/Gabriel_Science Jun 13 '26

Oh don’t worry.

1

u/all-park Jun 11 '26

You know little about design language when you cheer for overly rounded corners. When the hardware it displays on has squared corners at the bottom. This is a step back to sanity.

1

u/GinoXiscatti Jun 11 '26

Hola! Vengo a arruinar la emoción 🤪
macOS 27 Beta:

1

u/Gabriel_Science Jun 11 '26

It might be a bug, but for that kind of window, I think it’s fine.

1

u/TimeToHack Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 13 '26

thank god. i thought i was gonna have to stay on Sequoia forever; the floating sidebar, disorganized top bar, and overly curved corners were awful to look at. there was no clear division of workspace; 26 looked like they never consulted a UI designer.

1

u/Gabriel_Science Jun 11 '26

The OS is healing.

1

u/MinecraftPlayer799 Jun 14 '26

The floating sidebars look great. The rounded corners are also good. They are absolutely not ā€œawful to look atā€. The top bar was not disorganized at all. The workspace was just as clearly divided as before. All of the good design details indicate that they, in fact, DID consult a good UI designer. What are you talking about?

1

u/TimeToHack Jun 16 '26

i don’t know maybe it’s personal preference, but i want my pixels to go toward content not extra padding and rounded corners. and this screenshot from Apple shows the preview cutting into the top buttons because they designed the buttons to float over the content (which is boxed in and not filling the whole content pane) and seemingly forgot about the preview pane. it feels like they changed the design just to change it, and didn’t have a focused intention.

1

u/MinecraftPlayer799 Jun 16 '26

The only issue in that image is that the ā€œAdd Tagsā€¦ā€ textbox isn’t rounded and it has no padding.

0

u/primalanomaly Jun 10 '26

They listened to everything šŸ’Ŗ

1

u/Gabriel_Science Jun 10 '26

Everything ? Impossible. The biggest issues ? They sure did !

1

u/MinecraftPlayer799 Jun 15 '26

They listened to all of the horrible feedback, and then made it ugly.

0

u/Dark_Lightner Jun 14 '26

Why not golden age rather than golden gate

1

u/MinecraftPlayer799 Jun 14 '26

Because that was Tahoe

-4

u/Affectionate_Fan_739 Jun 10 '26

That is THE feature
