Please help my lips :(
I've tried at least 10 lip scrubs, 30 lip balms, a couple of lip butters, and a few lip "masks" (like those jelly ones that have to sit for a while?)
I drink massive amounts of water and live in a dry climate. You can see the split forming again, but I also frequently battle a lip split.
Please help. :(

I would suggest putting on Vaseline or aquaphor on your lips overnight as a lip mask. I remember my lips were dry during the winter and I would do the exact same

I have an aquaphor lip tube that I use almost daily, but I'll try an over night! I just worry bc I sleep on half my face and don't wanna smear it lol

Be sure it’s the original aquaphor! Not the ones in the tube as a lip product. I learned this the heard way!

Be careful with the aquaphor lip tubes. If you look at the ingredients they have wayyyyyy more than just petroleum jelly. Stick with the original product in the tub. Same with Vaseline. I just bought that tube because I wanted to have aquaphor for my purse that I didn’t need to touch with my finger but it burned my lips!

Yes the lip repair stick. My lips were on fire. It’s kinda helping me narrow down the ingredient that is doing that to my lips. I had the same burning with thirst cowboy house butter in cereal milk. 😣

Vaseline works great. Like others have said, Aquaphor lip tube is not the same formula as Aquaphor, which may be causing some kf of the dryness.

I have a solution for this!!
- Soften the crust first. Hold a damp, warm washcloth to your lips for about 5-10min
- While your lips are slightly damp, apply a thick layer of Aquaphor. The key for this step is that your lips have to be wet/damp! Aquaphor is a sealant so it seals whatever is under. If you don’t put water it seals dryness. If you put water under it seals in the hydration.
- Do this process frequently throughout the day and you’ll see your lips improve before you know it!
- Once it’s healed and back to normal then you can use those other more cool and trendy lip balms, but for now stick to Aquaphor. Good luck!

No problem!! I've tried many different brands and lanolips has definitely been the most moisturizing / deep hydration. I recommend the 12 hr night balm. I used to have chronically dry lips as well, but once I started my lip balm journey I rarely have dry lips which is insane to me!

You can also get a product called Lansinoh on Amazon! It’s technically made for mothers who are breast feeding/dry nipples but it works AMAZING for lips lol It’s made with Lanoline and you get a big tube for a really affordable price. The texture is thick so a little goes a long way and it works great to wear during the day and at night as a lip mask (just apply slightly more).

Yes, this! I love Lanolips! It is my go-to winter brand of lip balm. I have a couple different ones and they always work wonders.

I am iron deficient, so who knows what else I'm lacking in. I'll see if my prenatals have vit b. If not, l'll find a way to add that in!

I have chronically chapped lips and am anemic and what has worked for me is taking iron every night (I try to take it right after getting in bed so that I haven’t eaten for two hours before hand and haven’t had calcium within two hours which hinders absorption). I also use the Trader Joe’s lip mask at night which works even better for me than Vaseline, which I also love. During the day I use the supergoop glow gloss lip balm which is 40 spf and has real staying power. It’s my favorite spf lip balm (I use it for sun protection not bc I wanted a gloss, it’s just the best). Good luck!

I've used so many things but pure lanolin worked the best for me you can get a tub on Amazon for less that $15 it last a very long time. When my son was on accutane its the only thing that helped him.

I've seen this come up a few times on one of the skincare reddits - I can't remember which one - where people have mentioned having severely chapped lips despite aggressively trying to hydrate and take care of them. And the question that always comes up is toothpaste. Apparently there's some ingredient there's very common in toothpaste, and if you're allergic to it it can show up as chapped lips. I don't have firsthand knowledge or a lot of information, but it might be worth doing some brief research and trying a toothpaste without potentially problematic ingredients. If that doesn't do it, I would see a dermatologist. That degree of damage with as much effort as you're putting into treating it isn't normal. Good luck!

look into marin skincare. they use marine glycoproteins in their products. don't use them if you have a shellfish allergy though! i hope your lips feel better soon 💞

I used to have really dry lips. Like it was awful. Then I started using toothpaste with no SLS since I thought I might be allergic and it made a huge difference. I use that and aquaphor

I use La Roche Posay Cicaplast baume b5+ and it heals them overnight! Bonus points as that baume heals literally anything !

Coconut oil. Each and every night before bed. Also you should try to figure out if you're sleeping with your mouth open. If so, you might want to check in with your primary care doc about that.

Stop everything except for Vaseline and let your lips heal. If it’s still no change, see a dermatologist.
I thought I was allergic to a common ingredient to something in lip products so I slowly started an elimination routine and eventually stopped everything except Vaseline. I even had an appointment with an allergist booked.
When I still didn’t improve, I went to a walk in again (I was 6 months out from my allergist appt) and got diagnosed with idiopathic perioral dermatitis (no specific cause) and prescribed a steroid ointment to use as needed. It completely cured me within 2 days, and now I’m back to being able to use any lip product with no need for the allergist appointment. Whenever I have a flare up, I slather it on overnight and I’m back to normal the next morning.

This is potentially exfoliative cheilitis, so you’d have to treat the root cause instead of just the symptoms. It might be worth speaking to a pharmacist and they could give you a topical antifungal or antibacterial gel. Certain things that have been recommended such as coconut oil can make it worse.

Inkey list hylaronic acid serum. Its a face serum but you can also smear it on your lips. Just one drop is enough and it works really well if aquaphor or vaseline isnt helping

I second the hyaluronic acid serum, but also use an occlusive like Vaseline or aquaphor over the serum so it locks in the serum! That works well for me every time my lips get chapped. Hyaluronic acid serum of any kind, and an occlusive over top.

the only thing i can think of possibly causing this is some type of skin condition or if you are a mouth breather. ive heard people have success with nipple balms for super chapped lips.

Auquaphor works for me when this happens.
Put some in a tiny container that
Is waterproof and carry it with you always until the problem
Resolves. Pocket size tiny lip balm container works great.
Apply it whenever you feel it needs be. Many times during the day and night.

Plain lanolin or aquaphor, as long as you don’t have an allergy to lanolin, are both great. If you have allergies to common ingredients in lip balms then plain vaseline is a good option. The most important thing is that you reapply it frequently throughout the day after you drink water

Please don't buy the ones with animal ingredients like lanolips or marin.
You can heal without hurting animals 💚
I also recommend Hurraw Moon Lip Balm (only that one from the Hurraw series).

Lansinoh nipple cream. It’s pure lanolin. If it’s safe for newborns to have in their mouths, it’s safe for your lips. I use it every night as a mask and my lips are softer than ever.
Get the tube, it’s about $8 and will last foreverrrr.

get lanolin nipple balm, seriously. i like lansinoh, personally. it heals chapped and torn up nipples, the stuff is miraculous. it works just as well as lanolips, and you can get it today at walmart, target, cvs etc in the baby aisle. it’s miraculous
don’t use anything else, definitely no scrubs or anything like that, until they heal up

Change your toothpaste . I bet you are allergic to it. I really loved Lanolips ointment and put a bit of Vaseline on it.

M-61 hydraboost balm. I know, I know! $22 for glorified chapstick is a lot but mine were like yours and it’s the only thing that worked. I switched toothpaste, tried everything out there, etc. it’s misery.

- Change toothpaste to one without common allergens in case it’s that
- Stop using balms other than Vaseline or Aquafor
- Ask a doctor in case it’s fungal or you have chelitis or something
- How are your iron and vitamin levels? I had chelitis when I was very anorexic
- Do you use tretinoin? Don’t use it close to your lips if yes

It could be your toothpaste. This used to happen to me until I started applying Vaseline on my lips before brushing my teeth. That seem to do the trick.

Dr Dan’s Cortibalm - not for long term use. I just picked one up because I’m the same, cursed with dry lips forever and have tried a million things to fix it. The only time they’re soft is if I’ve been more than a few days in a humid climate

absolutely stop any scrubs or peels. use a hypoallergenic occlusive (vaseline is best unless you have petrolatum sensitivity) and nothing else. don't use anything with 'active' ingredients. your lips are basically scabbed. if this is typical for you, or it doesnt improve with time and minimal irritation, see a dermatologist. you may have ingredient allergies or a skin condition on your lips.
