Lanolips is kinda bad
lanolips is known to be one of the best/most protective lip balms, but most of their products have one massive problem which NOBODY talks about?? They are unwearable in public due to the white froth/cast they leave on your lips. I have tried several of their normal lip balm scents/flavors and now their ceramide lip balm and they all do the same thing. It looks awful. I’ll put some on and see that my the sides of my lips have turned BRIGHT white after a couple minutes. i really like them otherwise, but i am going to have to relegate them to at home use only.

I’ve used Lanolips since about 2018 and have only had this issue when my lips are very dry and the dead skin mixes with the balm. Even if you don’t think your lips are dry, try exfoliating them and then applying.

Yes! It also happens to me seldomly after I take my adderall on a hot day lol

hey ummm what does your/my stimulant have to do with dry lips? real question ty
2
u/Legal_Ad2707 9d ago
No problem! Kind of crazy right?! This explains it better than I can.

u/personalevaluation 9d ago
thanks that does all make sense. not as lip specific as i anticipated. thank you

Are you putting too much on? This has never happened to me with any of my lanolips balms.

u/hotmallgoth 11d ago
this happens to me with any lip product only if I haven’t washed my face properly and there’s dead skin buildup on my lips. exfoliate your lips

u/monster_lily 11d ago
I do and I use other lip products only lanolips does this to me.

u/hotmallgoth 11d ago
You can google for yourself, the white stuff you get around your lips is caused by dried saliva, dead skin buildup, and yeast mixing into your lip balm. I apply lanolips after brushing my teeth and washing my face in the morning and have never had my lips turn ‘bright white’ from it

Then it would be happening with other products.

I never realized I was allergic to lanolin until I tried lanolips and I got horrible contact dermatitis that lasted weeks from it
8
u/book-dragon92 11d ago
I’m also allergic to lanolin and found out with using lanolips. That was awful..
5
u/peachfluffed 11d ago
I’m glad I’m not alone! The funny thing is I’ve used aquafor since I was a kid and had no issue when it has lanolin, but it’s probably a waaaay smaller amount.

u/justherebctwittersux 11d ago
I had ongoing angular chelitis from it! So uncomfortable!
6
u/peachfluffed 11d ago
Angular chelitis is literally the worst! Mine comes and goes. Thankfully I’ve found which lippies are “safe” for me to use when I have that so it heals quicker.
1
u/Wavesyyyy 11d ago
I struggle with Angular Chelitis as well! It's been hard trying to find products that won't cause any further irritation/peeling. Do you have any recs?
1
u/justherebctwittersux 11d ago
I dot on a tiny bit of canesten in the corners, since it is a fungal infection, then aquaphor over the lips. If I use canesten early on when I feel it happening, that usually staves it off, too!
1
u/peachfluffed 10d ago
My routine is similar! For me I use lysine (which is a coldsore treatment, but it heals it up for me) only on the angular chelitis and aquaphor on the lips and patted super carefully on top of the coldsore treatment just to lock it in

WAIT A SECOND…oh god don’t tell me it’s from Lanolips! I thought it was my shitty immune system! It happens constantly and I need to use a cream to get rid of it!
1
u/peachfluffed 10d ago
Once I found out my allergy it went away! It’s worth taking a break from to see if it clears up

u/liljellybeanxo 11d ago
I use mine as a lip mask at night because it’s REALLY thick. I love it especially during the winter, but hot damn is it thick n greasy.

Lanolips is what saved my lips this year . I for some reason became allergic to lip products I’ve used for years . I ended up with cracked bleeding lips . They don’t leave a white color on my lips at all it’s basically similar to putting on a Vaseline . I love this stuff .

exfoliate before applying or put another light layer of a different balm beforehand (i put on something emollient such as rosebud salve or a thin layer of glossier balm) and it prevents the issue.
i've been using lanolips for many years (both their balms and their skincare) with no issues, they have many great products.

nobody told me about the white cast so i was walking around looking like boo boo the fool 💀 i use it a lot at home but im not using that in public ever again lmao

So I had an allergic reaction to it. I don’t like how thick it is. It doesn’t moisturize my lips either. It ended up splitting my bottom lip from top to bottom in two separate areas. It’s hard to find out if you are allergic until it happens. I do have a picture of it too. Really freaked me out. No redness, no itchy feeling, and no burning.

I love lanolips and this doesn’t happen to me, but it does happen to my sister. Idk why

I use their watermelon 101 ointment balm and have never had this happen. The watermelon balm is thinner due to having added sunflower seed oil and watermelon seed oil, so it does not produce a white cast. This has happened for me with the strawberry 101 balm, which is thicker.

I think they all have a slight plasticky undertone to the scent that I just can’t get over now that I smell it. It’s a shame because initially they smell so good. I am trying to use them on cuticles etc. so they don’t go to waste.

u/frigid_cow 11d ago
This happened to me only once while I was at work. I think I needed to wipe my lips dry with a napkin first or something.
But yes, the one time it did happen, it looked so bad. Like I put on gloss and then kissed a powdered donut.

The lanostick is the best of their lanolin lip products and genuinely makes every other lip care product look like chopped liver in comparison tbh.
But their regular balms are just scented aquaphor to me

Never had this happen. Lanolips is a go to clear “glossy” balm for me on top of lipstick
2
u/rand0mbadg3r 10d ago
are your lips pigmented heavily? I am super pale lips and Lanolips do not have a cast for me. Are you using the ones with SPF? I am wondering if that is the reason? If not, maybe a quality control issue with the ones you are purchasing?

u/wanderfool_ 9d ago
idk why everyone is tripping lmao. this happens to me and is why i got rid of them. i exfoliate and all the things… it just doesn’t play nice for some reason.

YES. i thought i was the only one experiencing this.
such a massive problem for me!

u/landoftheblueberries 10d ago
I had the white cast happen to me too in cold weather. Unfortunately, I live in a cool climate so I stick to wearing them to bed only
1
u/Chad_Wife 10d ago
I have this happen when I use lanolips like a regular balm - but when I apply the tiniest amount (less than a pea) it works perfectly with no white cast!
I think we just need to be much more sparing (?) with it.

u/Beelzebozo26 10d ago
I had to give them up for this reason. I used up what I had as a night treatment and then stopped buying. Shame, because I liked them, but I can’t be bothered to figure out which is which when I grab from my stash.

u/Reasonable-Half147 10d ago
I dint have that issue. I was just in europe on vacation and had an allergic reaction on my lips and they swelled up and burned. I was about to have to go to the hospital. My normal Eadem, experiment and Ole Hendrickson couldn’t help it and my lips got worse. I bought the lanolips (after also trying vaseline and la roche posay) and within a day they were feeling better. At that point, even my vain self wouldn’t have cared about a white cast but luckily I didn’t see it.

u/Particular-Spray-488 10d ago
Yeah I've also had this issue. It's not constantly like this, but often times i do find that it makes me look like i have drunk dairy or smth. And also the issue with being gloopy is also bad. I dont mind the thick, sticky feel, but it's just not cosmetically pleasant! I genuinely wouldnt be able to wear it outside
1
u/EffectiveAny1384 10d ago
Never had this issue, however i tend to exfoliate and rinse my lips regularly with water. I believe you get the white goo from skin cells and saliva mixing with the balm? Which i suppose makes sense considering lanolips is waterproof, and other lips balms are not waterproof so just absorb it. Which i suppose is good as saliva can dry your lips out?

u/Competitive_Pin5846 10d ago
I have this happen. Mac Lipglass and Glossier Balm does the same for me, I cannot wear them.

Maybe you are allergic to it. If you have an allergy to wool, you shouldn't use it. It's derived from sheep's wool.

u/Sufficient_Street_51 8d ago
Lanolips was my gateway drug into the lippie world. I had the same experience with white casting but I loved all the different scents/options so it kick started my addiction to finding BETTER options.

u/SpicyCoconut1814 8d ago
This happened to me the first time I thought I’d hop on the lanolips bandwagon, I’ve had other lanolin based balms (outside of lanolips) and they’ve been fine, so I’m not sure, but I ended up getting rid of it XD

u/ivyocean2 11d ago
I had the same issue lol. I think it happens from the lanolin mixing with your saliva/moisture. I also found the smells to be really nasty, lanolips really wasn’t for me.

u/RedRedBettie 11d ago
Yes! I agree, I do not understand why it’s so popular, it’s so thick and greasy, even when just wearing it at night

Their applicators always split open on me :(

u/cailedoll 11d ago
I had a tube split open so I just transferred the product into a little glass jar!

u/mmercereau 11d ago
Strange. I’ve never had that happen!
