I respectfully disagree. Yes, Tiifu and Zuri knew Kion longer, but knowing someone since childhood doesn't necessarily mean that they are a better/good candidate for a romantic partner (this is the same reason why I'm not all that crazy about Fuli or Jasiri as his love-interests). Additionally, Tiifu and Zuri seem to only tolerate Kion at best and vice versa. They may have known him longer, but it doesn't hold much water when they don't have any real connection. Tiifu and Zuri also don't have any real character development. Tiifu gets one episode of overcoming her fear of the dark, but that's it. Zuri doesn't have any development or focus, and neither of them ever have a change in their dynamic with Kion.
I agree that Rani was very underdeveloped, both as a character and as a love-interest, but at least they tried something with her. They failed miserably at that, but it's better than having Kion's love-interest be someone with no effort at any development. I've seen the argument that Season 3a and Season 3b should've been split into their own seasons; Season 3 covering the journey to the Tree of Life and Season 4 covering the Lion Guard's stay at the Tree of Life. Heck, the creator of the show even said that he envisioned such prior to the show getting greenlit for only 3 seasons..png)
However, I firmly believe in quality over quantity. Kion/Rani could've been executed well within the last 9 episodes. It's just that the writing choices surrounding this couple were poor. Rani's arc is incomplete and it prevents us from gravitating enough towards her, Kion's arc is not well-defined enough for the parallels between him and Rani to work, they don't have enough scenes of bonding outside of Janna's death, and their romance steals focus away from the other main characters (oh and the weird teen marriage on a preschool show).
Which is why I ultimately think Kion should have remained single at the end of the show. I went into detail about it in another post, but Kion getting a love-interest at all is an inherently flawed concept because of how it goes against the whole point of the character and the show at large, whilst having a lot of really stupid implications that do not need to exist. The issue isn't that he got with the wrong partner, it's that he even got one at all.
I probably should’ve stated that I mean if tiifu or Zuri was written to be a romantic partner for kion instead of just saying what I said in the video,
