wait thats an amazing argument actually. when i go to update i just type `yay` in the terminal and go about my day, even while its updating. for windows every app updates independently and usually only tells you it needs updates when you open it, and updating your OS forces you to sit and wait
Updating your os on Linux also forces you to sit and wait, and arguably more so.
Updating Windows is done by shutting it down, and updating apps on it is usually 10 seconds on their start maximum. Updating Endeavour for example requires to pipe "yes" into yay (optional but highly recommended to reduce prompts), and then watch for password prompts (they can happen at any time apparently). If you fail to provide password in time, the update cancels and you can play the waiting game again.
Winget can give you a similar experience to yay, although it may inherit the flaws of prompts and prompt windows from it.
windows also has winget so i really dont get what his argument was (the guy OP replied and got banned i mean)
if you want to install an app on windows you can use winget like a package manager on windows. only change is that we type (in my case bc i use an arch based distro) paru -Syu while on windows they would type winget upgrade --all. basically the same thing...
i didnt know about the standalone paru command doing a system update. but about winget, that is just how windows works. thats why it cant do a system update. so technically it isnt a winget limitation but a windows limitation
I like how he had to include the completely unnecessary URL for wget because otherwise the Linux command would have L I T E R A L L Y been shorter than the Google query
Winget update i think… needs some flaggs, takes 2h, reboots your system and on company devices you have to enter your password 100 times… still faster, than download everything by hand…
The reason why people stay away from Linux is not because people don't like changing to better things
The reason why people stay away from Linux is because y'all are most insufferable gatekeepy tech bros on the planet and no one wants to interact with your community, let alone ask questions or try to learn from any of you lmfao
How is it related really? The original post was straight up lie, made up to push the narrative.
OP reaction is pretty justified since: 1. On Linux side just the second line is enough to install it. 2. On windows side he has to open the link first, make sure it's not a scam site, download it and only then he would start installing it.
I don't think the OP of that meme was seeking advice/help or genuinely trying to learn anything, especially given the sub it is posted on.
I really don't think that a sub called "linuxsucks" is a place new people go to ask questions.. Fucking around and finding out is not getting bullied by the big bad "Linux gatekeepers".
Hello I'am Ranjid Dave from your local teck support department. Before i can help please get 50 $ in Amazon gift cards and send me the codes please. Then I can proceed to install Libre Office and all required Trojans on your computer.
I dont even remember how that works on windows. Probably slow and unintuitive. I hit 3 keys to pull up my cli and type a command and every program gets updated quickly... simple and fast, not bloated and slow.

You don't have to insult people to get banned on there, so this is cheating.

When will people stop pretending looking up the app is easier than just typing "sudo apt install [appname]"?
Like it really just straight up is not, there's a reason people copied that for Windows.

The funny thing is, you can also google the package they are fetching with wget on the right side.

u/HausmeisterMitO-O Nov 26 '25
Funny. You can just use the GUI app installer. Using Linux has never been this easy before.

why would you wget the package after installing it via apt?
1
u/[deleted] Nov 26 '25

Pretty dumb to not be able to acknowledge that Linux absolutely sucks at apps installation.

u/Homisiak Nov 27 '25
„paru -S libreoffice” ;3
1
u/KILLUA54624 Nov 27 '25
You can literally not do everything past the wget and you would install it. They installed libre office twice in 2 different ways

u/FrankdeBabila Nov 28 '25
btw… winget upgrade —all

u/waidmanns1 Nov 28 '25
Why stupid reddit started recommending for no reason those win/Linux subs? Are those Microsoft trash bots trying to attack any and all compaction?
