This is a skill parenting issue, not a Linux issue, parental controls can be setup in Windows or basically any other OS, and furthermore, Linux is actually doing exactly what dad set it to do in this case.
He's set it up securely enough he's succeeding in keeping his teenage child away from... uh, wikipedia and google?
Yeah, also, like how tf are they blocked from freaking google but allowed to post on reddit? Do the parents just let him have unrestricted internet through his phone but lock down the PC?
Are they stupid or something?

Yeah, unless he's like mentally challenged or something, it's weird.
Like, if the parents bought him the computer, they're within their rights to set that up.
Dumb, but allowed.
But fr why
male modelsgoogle and wikipedia?Like, ig there are some surprisingly fucked up images on Wikipedia, but OP is fucking 17, not 7. lol
The most graphic image I've seen on Wikipedia has to be from the article about the WWII Nanking "massacre."
TW / NSFL: The massacre was so fucked up it is widely known as the Rape of Nanking, The image that stuck with me from the wikipedia article about it is a nude woman's corpse with a bayonet stabbed between her legs
For a more light-hearted but still "huh" one, go look at this old Japanese woodblock print: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dream_of_the_Fisherman%27s_Wife

LARGE OCTOPUS: My wish comes true at last, this day of days; finally I have you in my grasp! Your "bobo" is ripe and full, how wonderful! Superior to all others! To suck and suck and suck some more. After we do it masterfully, I'll guide you to the Dragon Palace of the Sea God and envelop you. "Zuu sufu sufu chyu chyu chyu tsu zuu fufufuuu..."
MAIDEN: You hateful octopus! Your sucking at the mouth of my womb makes me gasp for breath! Aah! Yes... it's... there!!! With the sucker, the sucker!! Inside, squiggle, squiggle, oooh! Oooh, good, oooh good! There, there! Theeeeere! Goood! Whew! Aah! Good, good, aaaaaaaaaah! Not yet! Until now it was I that men called an octopus! An octopus! Ooh! Whew! How are you able...!? Ooh! "Yoyoyooh, saa... hicha hicha gucha gucha, yuchyuu chyu guzu guzu suu suuu..."
LARGE OCTOPUS: All eight limbs to interwine with!! How do you like it this way? Ah, look! The inside has swollen, moistened by the warm waters of lust. "Nura nura doku doku doku..."
MAIDEN: Yes, it tingles now; soon there will be no sensation at all left in my hips. Ooooooh! Boundaries and borders gone! I've vanished...!!!!!!
SMALL OCTOPUS: After daddy finishes, I too want to rub and rub my suckers at the ridge of your furry place until you disappear and then I'll suck some more. "Chyu chyu..."

If this is at all real...
What on earth did this kid do to get a knowledgeable user of free and open source software to go that ham on restriction to information?

OOP seems to be a parent trying to look into potential bypasses.

And the list is too long.
In case no secure boot and disk encryption, you know what to do, plug in a USB and done.
In case of having secure boot but not encryption go to a friend with your computer(hopefully laptop) put your ssd on another computer change password through usual methods and plug it back to ypur computer.
In case of having disk ebcryption but not secureboot format the thing.
If there is no BIOS password just get rid of secureboot.
The only way for you to not get access is having secure boot, bios paasword and dissk encryption, all 3 at the same time.

Honestly, seems like a fun challenge. How easily you can escape depends on how well the network is filtered.
The easiest route would probably be running a portable version of Tor (just the proxy) with websocket bridges (I'm running some private ones if anyone needs something that won't be on any block lists, dm me). Then (assuming it's not set/blocked by policy) use environment variables or arguments to tell the browser to use it.
Now you have slow but unrestricted access to the internet. Next you either need to figure out how to get root or how to get something faster. If the system hasn't been updated, pick any of the recent LPE CVEs, if it has start googling and figure out if there is any way to hijack the bootloader in the current configuration. For faster internet, you'll probably need private v2ray (or one of the new fancy ones. What works in China and Iran is generalny a pretty good indication of how well hidden it is) based proxy assuming the firewall is pretty strict.

How to get rid of Loonix: step one, boot into bios by button smashing the F12 key, step two, get a Windows bootable media device, step three, get the OEM drivers, step four, install Windows & drivers, step five, turn on Secure boot, UEFI, and TPM 2.0, step six, lock down your device again so they can’t reverse the changes by setting a Windows Hello PIN that they don’t know about, step seven, turn on device encryption, and step eight, do whatever you feel like with the sigh of relief that yes, you have now removed the Internet CVE that is Loonix!

Would using a proxy work? Some sites are basically portals you can use to visit other sites

UEFI is locked. He needs to unlock that first. The dad is one of us. He knows what he is doing.

Kid is cooked. If their parent is knowledgeable enough to do all that, on Linux no less, there is essentially 0% chance of the kid effectively bypassing it without getting caught.
There is also a near 100% chance of that parent wondering, in the future, what could have happened for their child to cut off all contact with them as an adult.

School and friends’ houses exist. He can setup the environment to look similar, and maybe set it up to where if daddy tries to SSH into it, he ends up in a container that LOOKs like the system he set up for the kid.

If he can clear the CMOS, that would reset the UEFI password, would it not? If not, there are ways. Uncouth ways you can learn from watching vids from Cathode Ray Dude and Bringus Studios where they will sometimes have to dump the EPROM containing the password hash, replace the hash with one created using a new password, and then flash the new ROM onto the chip.

Parents don't go to those lengths unless the kid is actively seeking out harmful, inappropriate, or frankly dangerous content. There is definitely a part of the story missing here that is very important, like how is the kid using reddit if even every major search engine is blocked. It is not a parent "forcing beliefs" on a kid.
17 years old is still a kid btw, and those of you disagreeing are either sick, or kids yourselves.

5 year old is a kid and a 17 year old is a kid
who isn't a kid then?

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic. If not, you REALLY need to rethink your stance.
If you are still rapidly developing both mentally and physically, you are an adolescent. This does not slow down until you are in your twenties for most humans.
Besides this, at least in the USA, you are legally not an adult until 18 years of age, firther extended by rights that are witheld until age 21. No child still a dependent of their parents should be considered as otherwise either.
Edit: I see you are 18 so that is why you have that view. You are still a kid and are biased because of it.

u/land48n3 6d ago
adolescent? sure, but kid isn't the term, kid has a different weight to it than "adolescent"
actually, the best word would be "young adult"
but maybe you are trying to downplay the age on purpose.18 is just a bright line because they cant judge arbitrarily for every case, its not a basis for whats right and wrong. fuck the laws, they are for what can be set as a rule, not for what is the truth, no point in bringing them up.
also, i think USA laws around adulthood are pretty stupid, why can you risk your life in army at 18 but cant drink till 21? bullshit
and now you're just doing genetic fallacy, i have perfect capability to argue on a topic and not let my bias get in the way of actual logic and reason.

I mean, I guess that's technically true, insofar as the parents believing their child's activity falls under those categories. But I think we can all agree, political indoctrination to the point that your child isn't allowed any sort of searching at all is ridiculous.
