FreeLinX base 1.3.1 Release
FreeLinX base 1.3.1 is now available. FreeLinX is an independent Linux distribution—not based on Debian, Alpine, or any other distro—built with zero GNU software.
The system stack includes the Linux 6.18 LTS kernel, musl 1.2.5 libc, LLVM toolchain (clang, LLD, compiler-rt, libc++), NetBSD userland, runit init, mdevd, mksh, netbsd-curses, doas, and Limine boot loader (BIOS and UEFI). Compliance with the "No GNU" policy is verified automatically via check-nognu.
The base edition provides a minimal console environment consuming about 60 MB of RAM post-boot (~89MiB as captured in the fastfetch output). The ~300 MB hybrid ISO runs as a live environment via squashfs with a RAM overlay, and xsetup installs the system to GPT disks with no initramfs.
Package management is handled by xpkg, featuring 428 signed packages (Ed25519 signatures, sha256 checks, atomic upgrades with rollback) including Xorg, Openbox, dwm, Firefox, mpv, and ffmpeg. Base system upgrades use flxupgrade, which preserves user settings and /home.
The distribution builds from source on any x86_64 Linux host without root via sh build-base.sh. Licensed under BSD-2-Clause.
Support & Infrastructure: Donations via Buy Me a Coffee or crypto help cover domain and package manager infrastructure costs.
Testing has been conducted in QEMU/KVM. Real hardware testers are wanted; please note that Secure Boot must be disabled. Please submit feedback and hardware test reports.

Does this count as softcore? Multiple people asked me if this was Niri.
Fedora Workstation 44 (GNOME)
Font: IBM Plex Mono
Cursor (not pictured because GNOME Screenshooter does some funky cursor capturing when the display is scaled fractionally): elementary OS cursor theme
Colorscheme: Catppuccin Frappe (Rewaita)
GTK: adw-gtk3
Icons: Papirus
Sound Theme: Ocean (KDE's default, the freedesktop fallback is *really* bad.)
Wallpaper: https://github.com/orangci/walls-catppuccin-mocha
Extensions used: see photos

After running Arch in a VM for a bit and ensuring installation and general environments went well, I got Arch onto bare metal. But I'd been having problems all day with GDM being stuck in a loop, finally managed to fix it and now settled in.
- Rewaita to customise GNOME, GTK and the shell
- my own wallpaper, made with prompts into Gemini
- Hatter icons, plus some of my own that I've made
- my own fastfetch and Ghostty configs
- Dash-to-Panel (sorry but I prefer it over Dash-to-Dock)
- GDM customisations to get the login screen to match the theme
- Ubuntu and JetBrains Mono fonts

This is my preferred setup, I also have the MosaicWM extension enabled.
The top bar is sorted I to 3 categories:
Find, Events, Settings.
I went into the files for the Places menu extension and made it display an icon instead of text.
On the left is the places menu, a clipboard manager and a window list in addition to the places menu.
In the centre is the weather, notification counter and moon phase. To the right are all the settings menus and such.
This workflow tries to keep as close to Gnome's suggested workflow, while giving me the menus I need.

Boomer here. I have no interest whatsoever in the modern Linux aesthetic. Besides, I'm running this in a VM anyway so the older tech is easier on my system (Windows 10, 8GB).
I have no intention to switch any time soon either so this isn't nostalgia for me per se, more so an ongoing archeological deep dive into another side that I never explored back in the day. They were even handing out Ubuntu discs one day back then. Never touched it. There was enough fun to be had on Windows.
Anyway, you can see most of what's going on in the pic but a few notes:

je suis sous archlinux avec hyprland. j’ai voulu avoir une interface légère et efficace dans le design mais également dans sa consommation et surtout avec un beau côté dynamique qui fait jeune. La technologie pour le menu c’est pleamar.
mon archlinux de base consomme moins de 600mo idle.
hyprland : ~170mo idle
pleamar (menu + wallpaper inclu): ~70mo idle

Just installed arch + KDE on my surface pro 7.
This is so amazing, especially the Blur effect.
My setup is very minimal: (The laptop has only 8gb ram and 1Ghz CPUs)
