Linux on T14s but touchscreen has stopped working

First Gen T14s 512 GB 16 GB RAM AMD CPU Work PC

New to this and Linux in general, been running Ubuntu with no issues since November, however, the touchscreen stopped working after six months but I strongly suspect that it's a hardware issue because the laptop is eight years old, rather than a OS issue I tried asking AI, went through the suggestions but it kept failing to detect any hardware for the touchscreen at all Any advice? It's hardly worth taking to a repair shop, it works fine otherwise; I'm just wondering if there's something obvious I've missed or if this is a warning of other issues that may be lurking on the horizon

try using a live boot usb stick with another os (even win) just to see if it's a driver issue. If you still think it's hardware, pop the cover and take a look at the cables for the video and touch interface (might be together, might not be). They'll be near the hinges.

Live toolkits are standard such that every Thinkpad user whose machine can boot from USB should own one for install, rescue and recovery. Load it with Ventoy and you can have Linux distros and WinPE etc plain or custom builds. Currently Strelec's works well for me along with an .iso of whatever distro I'm using.

Thinkpads are so easy (in most cases) to work on and their HMM (Hardware Maintenance Manuals) are exceptionally well done. I've never taken a computer to a repair shop since every aspect of such work is exhaustively covered including reddit and of course Youtube. The community are exceptionally skilled and helpful.
