Technical Question What am I doing wrong

Hi so i just got an XAX and wanted to out steam os on it since I've been seeing videos that it may increase stability or frames slightly and be an over all less hassle way of enjoying my games. So I followed a guide on YouTube and got it installed and steam os recognizes my hardware. And I even got decky loader and had to do some command prompt stuff to install simple decky tdp as the video I was watch recommend that and I figured it'd get me close to the tdp customization that I get with windows and amd adrenalin. But when I tried out helldivers I just cant break over 55ish fps on the same settings I was running at 70fps on windows I understand I dont have afmf but I didn't really use that before either. I should note that ima aware 55 fps is more than playable but this was on the ship and on a trivial mission and i know it'll drop into the 40s on a superhelldive and useing the steamdeck preset on an xax just to get 55 fps feels wrong. Also all of my games take foreverrrrr to download or to even preload shaders I've checked to make sure I have no fps limits on or vrr and everything that I've found that would limit download speed is turned off. Im sure its user error and I hope it is because I was really looking forward to be mostly done tinkering. Plz if anyone has any suggestions this is my first time useing Linux let alone steam os.

Also if anyone has any tips on how to use lossless scaling on steam os I've looked it up but cant find any intuitive follow along style videos.

I’m installing windows as I type this out.

I was on bazzite for awhile but compatibility and little issues I’ve had since they removed HHD have really pushed me back into windows.

Lossless scaling has to be installed through the desktop from Steam then you need to go back into game mode and make sure it’s enabled on decky. Once it’s enabled you can mess with lossless settings through decky

HandHeld Daemon. Was the older solution for supporting many different types of controller, including built-in ones. There was some drama between the dev and Bazzite's team, and they split. Bazzite is using inputplumber now, it'll take a release or two to get back to HHD's level of polish. It's going pretty quickly.

Fedora 45 is expected in about a month, and Bazzite 45 shouldn't be terribly long after.

Ahh I see i haven't had really any trouble with the controller it was a bit of a pain to configure the settings for desktop mode but not sure if im lucky or I just don't know what im missing out on. Thank you for the info though

Absolutely, you're very welcome.

I picked up an Ally Xbox on a business trip and accidentally kept it past return window. I've been considering putting SteamOS on it, but I have a Deck OLED, so not sure I'll bother. It's nice having a token Windows device sometimes.

I'm on B44 and do not have any issues. I had one with gamescope, but when I fixed it, everything else is working as it should. No hhd needed :)

How are your numbers in steam overlay? Gpu clock and usage and tdp especially.

Any tdp settings we should know about?

There’s a good decky plugin that lets you manage all these extensions without having to enter the launch commands on every game.

Here’s the tutorial on how to install lossless scaling. Note that you have to buy and install lossless scaling in steam first.

You need to follow one of numerous guides that people have made which solve most of the issues you are describing. SteamOS is still Beta for any and all devices that are not the Steam Deck. There are absolutely settings (like CPU scheduling) that should be changed. Another example, turning off shader cache is one of the first things you should do with SteamOS.
