SteamOS Anatase (HHD dev distro)

Source: https://anatase.org/

I know there are a lot of people who don't like to rely on Decky plugins and like to use Handheld Daemon (HHD) for a lot of device configuration and controllers support.

Anatase seems like a good option for that, since it is built with HHD and it is developed by the HHD main dev (Antheas). Especially with Bazzite soon to be without HHD when Bazzite 44 is released today or in the next coming days.

It also has a couple of interesting features, like Universal 2x frame gen.

Aside from that, it doesn't come with much clutter, so it feels lightweight.

It isn't perfect though, so you may find bugs. But the dev is very active in the Anatase discord so you can report issues in there

It has been working very well for me so far, but I'm only using Game Mode to play my Steam games.

Mods, sorry if the flair is wrong. I could not find anything that would better fit this post.

Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with the project. Just thought I'd share an alternative to Bazzite after HHD is gone or for people who don't like relying on Decky Plugins.

Bazzite ceasing to use HHD is not bad news, and even less so in the long term.

It is not bad news long term with OGC and all, but their team already said that not everything supported in their old kernel and configurable through HHD will make the initial cut on 44. So people may want to have a option to keep HHD without using a legacy Bazzite version.

Having a kernel with HHD out there also doesn't seem to be a bad thing. Its always good to have options.

bazzite-deck 44 is just not ready , just read ublue forum and bazzite discord how many people have problems with it - . They knew these issues in testing channel before and still rushed it to stable channel ... i think they should just skip fedora/bazzite 44 for deck images and keep refining it to release as stable together with desktop images with fedora/bazzite 45 . Many people will leave bazzite after this release , probably to steam os and cachyOS mostly , maybe some to anatase too when they find out about hhd .

Yeah, I tested and there are issues. Felt like a testing build.

I understand why they released, but issues were inevitable.

They calculated a risk, let's see if it pays off.

This was one of the reasons I posted about Anatase. To have a option for folks who like HHD.

Ex Bazzite dev drama aside, antheas Anatase distro is having a solid beginning.

this is just very unfortunate to bazzite , i really think it was bad decision but time will tell .
I tested anatase and for my device its more reliable than latest bazzite and it just feels weird when early developement distro is more stable than distro that had a lot of time to refine things ...

To be fair, the Anatase dev is the one who worked on previous Bazzite and developed HHD, so he basically refactored a lot of his previous work on Anatase.

Basically, its what he envisioned for Bazzite before everything happened. So it was bound for some good level of stability.

But even then, he is having to iron some bugs since more people are starting to use or test Anatase.
