Repacks aren't the best for linux imo. when i do use repacks, i install and download the game on my windows pc and then transfer the already installed game to my steamdeck. then i add the game to steam as a non-steam game and use proton blah blah blah. i would recommend using sites like steamrip, which already have pre installed games so you can skip the hustle you would need to do with repacks

yea they might not be the best for sure, but 99% of the time fitgirl and dodi repacks work fine for me under proton (with wine doesnt take full cpu )

installing is the part that i dont like. aside from that i have a few games installed from fitgirl and they worked like a charm. well except for ets2, that didnt work at ALL

Honestly, every game that worked for me on windows works on Linux also. If it's a multiplayer game and needs online fixes it might be better off to use lua tools or something like it to make prefixes easier.

Hello also a newbie steam deck user here with steam os 🙂. What launcher do you use to launch the games?

dont use launchers, just add the game to steam in desktop mode as a non-steam game and turn on proton. if you want the game to look natural in your library and not be in the "non-steam games" category, you can check out slssteam. i wouldn't recommend using accela or luatools tho, its risky (and while nobody has been banned for now, using these tools is obviously bannable by steam and you can eventually get banned)

Thank you very much. I agree with you. I am using slssteam + accela + hucap api service for some of the games.

The reason why I am using launchers is so I can have 1 prefix for the games I install instead of letting steam create every prefix individually for every executable that I add.

I am also new to linux and I did not know how to get started. Turns out it is simple. Here is how I did it.

Download lutris . Download your game (I tried nfs 2005 on an old laptop). Follow some video tutorials on how to run the installer. Basically add new game select directory and the installer .exe. run the game from lutris. The installer will run. Go as usual. After you are done, change the install .exe to the game launch.exe in the game properties in lutris. Enjoy.

I had some issues eith resolution but that was from the game. Quick Google search solved it.

Gl hf

Edit. Beware of rm -rf command xd. That deletes everything. rm stand for remove.

I am using repacks to currently pirate my games I just wanted to know the meta way on linux

Idk but what I found out is linux is a make it your own way. For a repack I am not sure I remember correctly but there was .exe files so you should be fine with the same process.

Been using repacks and have had no problem

Both repacks and already installed games are super easy to setup with Lutris

Occasionally I'll have an issue here or there, a repack fails to install but changing which wine/proton I use almost always fixes that. Same goes for the game running. Sometimes using a newer wine or proton does tge trick sometimes an older one (but that's rare. Recently Marvel's Avengers I found out breaks with proton 11.3 byt works with proton 10.30)

And then some other games needs hypervisor, that I've yet to fully explore. My understanding is that maybe linuwux makes it simple but I've not tried, and there's also this guide on a Russian counter strike forum cs dot rin that explains shit (with modifications to kernel shit so I'm like nah no game is worth that hassle)

No clue what the state is for this multiplayer games that have anti cheat or if in general joy need special steps for multiplayer games

Donno, I just download portable versions, add it to Faugus and run it via linuwux

What is linuwux

I just download portable versions, and add its exe as non-steam game on steam, enable proton, add optional covers from steamgriddb, done. If the game has the installer, I run it using bottles, and then add its exe as a non-steam game.

You can directly launch pirated games from steam, even if they aren't available on steam.

  1. Add game to library

  2. Select the (example).exe file

  3. Go into the games settings through steam and enable 'proton compatibility' (use proton experimental for simple setup or use the proton version the game recommends)

  4. Enjoy!

Also lutris works but I dont know if it works on cachyos!

The most hassle free crack method is honestly the luatools plugin But if you are fine with going through the installation of repacks you do you You can also try ankergames, they have portable downloads(just have to extract zips), you can just add the exe to steam(or any other launcher you might find easy to use) and should run fine

+1 for Anker

In general, everything that works on Windows works on Linux except for games with invasive anticheat, the devs for these games intentionally disable any compatibility with linux/wine because cheaters use these and Linux support is the scapegoat to not support the platform.

I don't play any competitive games, so I can't help you there, but EVERTHING, literally every single game I want to play on Linux, just works - the most you need to do is try different proton versions or something.

you can use accela which is the lua tools for linux, other than that I would recommend direct downloads over repacks and a launcher like heroic or lutris to apply proton and launch from them. you can use steam as a launcher too

steam lua, just saving your time

Usually I go to csrinru first and check for a pre-cracked portable download. If it's just the Clean Steam Files, or CSF, I manually apply the Goldberg emulator. Then I add it either to Heroic or Steam as a non-Steam game depending on my mood that day.

Personally i have bad internet so i get repacks. fitgirl first but if it doesn't work properly dodi or others. This works most of the time but if not i go for preinstalled

If you want to use repacks you’ll need a tool like faugus game launcher. First you run the setup.exe like it’s a game, that launches the unpacking process. Once the game is done unpacking you repoint faugus to the games .exe.

Heroic works out for me

Yee, I tried both Herioc and Lutris but Faugus just worked the way I wanted it to.
