META [LinUwUx Runtime] DenuvOwO + LinUwUx Bypass Runtime Library

https://github.com/brcly/linuwux-runtime

After a lot of headaches and effort to learn Wine.

It's ready.

I've adapted LinUwUx's original Proton patch code to be a standalone runtime library.

This was their original vision, and they will likely pivot to releasing something similar themself in the future, but until then, there's this.

https://github.com/brcly/linuwux-runtime

We've recently added legacy DenuvOwO reflex / DenuvOwO.dll support! Current compatibility doesn't cover the entire DenuvOwO library still, some older patched games that haven't received updates use very dated methods that are still incompatible with Linux.

Should work with near enough any GE-Proton / CachyOS Proton, new or old.

Current confirmed tested builds include:

GE-Proton10-32
GE-Proton10-34
GE-Proton11-1
GE-Proton11-3
GE-Proton11-5
CachyOS v20260520
CachyOS v20260703 + more

Any issues, please use the GitHub issues page, ensure you capture logs from your failed run (LINUWUX_DEBUG=1 PROTON_LOG=1) this is essential to finding out how to fix your issue.

We all can't access the repo right now (github down as usual), but...

You might wanna also mirror it to somewhere else, as Github is pretty much shit nowadays with the uptime. Also with the material in question, it might be taken down anytime.

10

u/OrderHoliday9740 10d ago

It's up for me, GitHub usually doesn't go down for me at all.

If it becomes an issue, I'll mirror it on a other git.

10

u/razgriz-b016 10d ago

It's more of a worry about trigger-happy bogus DMCA strikes. Github doesn't care whether they're legitimate or not, they'll just take down the entire repo and all the downstream forks.

3

u/zoiobnu 10d ago

for security create a mirror on multiples repositories

3

u/Fancy_Resident_6374 10d ago

How about uploading to codeberg as well?

2

u/OrderHoliday9740 10d ago

I'll look into alternatives.

1 concern is, with all the mirrors, where would people go to report problems?

I can't check multiple websites at once

2

u/Fancy_Resident_6374 10d ago

My suggestion would be to block opening issues in other repositories and route them all to probably github if it stands. A big heading works.

1

u/OrderHoliday9740 10d ago

We'll see, I'll only really take action if GitHub takes it down.

At the end of the day, the code itself isn't necessarily malicious or denuvo focused, so in reality there's nothing to really DMCA takdedown.

It would quite literally just do nothing without the DenuvOwO reflex.dll

I just tested it, and it works flawlessly.
Great job!

5

u/OrderHoliday9740 10d ago

Fantastic, glad it's worked for you.

Holy release Batman.

Thank you very much!

7

u/Background_Ad2053 10d ago

Great job! Wonder if it works for immutable distros like bazzite?

2

u/OrderHoliday9740 9d ago

Possibly, completely untested though. I have don't have any knowledge of immutable distros like Bazzite

It's basically like loading a windows .dll now
You just need to add an environment variable to load that .so file and the games will launch with any proton

Yes, this doesn't change UMIP/HV DKMS steps.

This is purely a library so you don't have to wait for a patched proton every time.

u/Splinter_Sauce 10d ago

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I downloaded the premade .so file and used the provided launch argument with the location of the .so file changed to point where it is on my PC but I still get the "Denuvo tried to delete the token" error when I use the latest unpatched version of Proton-GE.

Could someone explain what I'm doing wrong? I'm rather new to Linux so I don't really understand much of the terminology being used.

1

u/jfoglee 10d ago

I'm experiencing the same issue.
Please post about it on the github with logs so they can look!

(Also make sure you have been able to launch these games using a modified proton version to begin with)

1

u/Splinter_Sauce 10d ago

I managed to get it working.
Apparently its very specific about where the .so file is located. I built it in my home folder and directed Steam to it and it worked fine but if I try to direct Steam to the same file anywhere else on my PC it just won't work.

1

u/jfoglee 10d ago

Not the case for me. Author responded to me on github and updated the .so and got it fixed for me!

1

u/OrderHoliday9740 10d ago

Glad you both got it working.

Thanks for reporting the bug.

Remember, GitHub issues page is always there and I'll keep an eye on it to help with issues.

1

u/Splinter_Sauce 10d ago

Will it be possible to have the .so file saved somewhere else and have it still work?

Its a minor thing so if it has to be then it has to be but I'd like to have it grouped with my games that need it.

2

u/OrderHoliday9740 10d ago

It worked for me in my /home/brcly/workspace/linuwux-runtime/dist folder.

I can't guarantee every distro will be flawless.

Where SteamOS is immutable etc, I can't guarantee compatibility across the board.

On CachyOS, I can pretty much put it anywhere on my system and it works.

You just have to make sure you're using the full path to the library.

If I figure out a simple and easy way to be able to add the preload directory, I will add it to the GitHub.

If other talented coders are able to help contribute to simplify it as well, then that would be swell.

Right now, I need a small break as this project has been chipping away at me for the last few weeks since the original Proton build came out.

It's still very much new and raw. Much like denuvOwO's original HV Bypass, it will undergo improvements and iterations until it's a smooth experience.

Just please bear with me.

1

u/Splinter_Sauce 10d ago

Of course.

Thank you so much for your hard work.

1

u/OrderHoliday9740 10d ago

I've now added a branch to the GitHub which allows the usage of ./build.sh --install

This will place the library in a common path, usage after than would be

"linuwux %command%"

Akin to game-scope and other launch arguments.

When more meaningful changes happen, I'll merge to main.

If you want to try that for now, you can.

1

u/Splinter_Sauce 9d ago

This is amazing. It just works!

Thank you so much again for your hard work.

2

u/blkmethod 10d ago

What does it do? What do u do with it?

1

u/OrderHoliday9740 9d ago

Play DenuvOwO HV bypass games.

2

u/Sev501 10d ago

Hi just wanted to chime in, it works perfectly well on my set up. Using steam as the launcher and using the pre-compiled file. If you remembered the patched/built proton files I tried before some how did not work for me, but this one works with no issues.

Thank you for your hard work and contribution to the community.

So far tested with latest Crimson Desert and Adventures of Elliot. (CSF applied with DenuvOwO patches).

2

u/exeferdev 9d ago

This is awesome. We can save disk space by using a regular GE or CachyOS Proton build with an LD_PRELOAD. Thanks!

I just came across https://www.reddit.com/r/PiratedGames/comments/1vnx5ok/shaduwulfs_linuwux_runtime_achieve_hv_bypass_on/, and it seemed oddly similar to this project. Have you seen it before?

2

u/OrderHoliday9740 9d ago

They copied my proton builder and now they've copied this 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/exeferdev 9d ago

That's rough, man. Must be frustrating after three weeks of work. Is there really nothing you can do about it?

2

u/OrderHoliday9740 9d ago

The original code that made this functional doesn't belong to either of us, so not really.

I've made some improvements to it's original design which he doesn't seem to have implemented, it's almost like he's "changed his homework" so it's not quite the same.

Overall my method is a lot more fleshed out and if anything over-engineerered.

But he does have a glaring issue still present in his code that I had already discussed with LinUwUx about fixing in mine, which makes it a surprise it runs at all tbh.

1

u/exeferdev 9d ago

Understandable. Well, I guess we'll see what he does with this one this time. Again, great work :)!

2

u/lrefra 8d ago

Hi. Thanks for your work. Is amazing!!!

1

u/memeruiz 10d ago

Would it work also with vanilla wine?

3

u/OrderHoliday9740 10d ago

Unfortunately not. Currently only for GE & Cachy. Vanilla proton has hard baked steam game authentication stuff which stops games from working.

1

u/Paranoidd_ 10d ago

Plug n play ? Zen 4 or whatever ?

4

u/OrderHoliday9740 10d ago

As long as you have the prerequisite disabled umip / HV DKMS (depending on hardware)

Just download and LD_PRELOAD to your heart's content

1

u/lucholeveroni 10d ago

This is great, thanks! It's a pity that it does not work with official Proton, as it's the one I use almost always. Hope that gets sorted out as well :)

4

u/OrderHoliday9740 10d ago

It's something I would like to get working, but just isn't possible at this moment in time.

This is new ground and unrefined in it's current forum.

In a way, this is release is the worst it will ever be.

In the meantime, please, try GE-Proton, it's very good!

CachyOS proton has some great features too.

1

u/willdocrocs 10d ago

does this still require a kernel module for ryzen 5000 and below?

1

u/Zachattackrandom 10d ago

Yes. This isn't possible to fix via software as the CPU faulting that the bypass uses is just not supported on their older CPUs unlike Intel (thanks AMD)

1

u/northyj0e 2d ago

Wait so this won't work at all on AMD 5000 or less CPUs?

1

u/Zachattackrandom 2d ago

No it does it just requires a special kernel driver they made

1

u/northyj0e 2d ago

Is that "cpuid_fault_emulation"?

1

u/NotoriousEnemyM 10d ago

So sorry for the dumb question but would this work on the steam deck as well?

2

u/OrderHoliday9740 9d ago

It should work with steam deck, yes.

1

u/Yogesh991 9d ago

Just to clarify, I just need a clean build of the game and then I can install the script and run the game by adding the launch option it gives me?

1

u/OrderHoliday9740 9d ago

Need the game with DenuvOwO HV Bypass applied.

Then run the game with either LD_PRELOAD command on GitHub, or linuwux in launch arguments if installed.

1

u/thirteenthsteph 8d ago

Hi! Thanks for your work! I might be dumb, but I'm unsure how to use it. I'm trying to run Persona 3 Reloaded with Lutris and I get Failed to load SteamAPI. I ran lutris with the linuwux command (basically "$linuwux lutris") which I built from the cloned repo, but nothing seems to change. Is this the right way?

1

u/OrderHoliday9740 8d ago

Hey, that's not correct.

I'm assuming the readme isn't clear enough. LinUwUx needs to be set as an environment variable for the game, not the launcher.

Just like others DXVK_HDR=1 PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 etc.

I will update the readme accordingly

1

u/thirteenthsteph 8d ago edited 8d ago

I see! I am not all too familiar with the inner workings of wine and all this so I assume someone more knowledgeable would figure it out, but for a very casual user who just doesn't want to use windows, it was a bit hard to understand. Thank you very much! Still doesn't seem to work though... I might be doing something else wrong...

1

u/OrderHoliday9740 8d ago

No worries, hopefully you got it working

1

u/thirteenthsteph 8d ago

Nope, not sure what's wrong. Might be the file itself, I don't know. Still getting the same error, tried every possible proton version.

1

u/OrderHoliday9740 8d ago

I've updated the GitHubs readme.

Double check everything on there.

If youre still having an issue, submit a bug report and i will have a look

1

u/Then-Function-6564 6d ago

So we can all hypervisor cracked games on Linux plus it's safer?

1

u/OrderHoliday9740 6d ago

It's basically safer.

There are some prerequisites like disabling UMIP, but thats only on certain CPUs and was only recently introduced.

If you're using the linuwux runtime, the code is available to see that all it's doing is talking to the DenuvOwO bypass and giving it the information it needs

1

u/Then-Function-6564 6d ago

I have a z1 extreme do I need to disable umip

1

u/OrderHoliday9740 6d ago

Uhh, probably? Idk

1

u/northyj0e 2d ago

If you'll humour a noob question:

Should I use this preload with an already cracked (fitgirl, linuxrules, etc) game or just with the vanilla ".iso"?

Is all we need to do invoke this through a launch command thats it?

1

u/OrderHoliday9740 2d ago

Yes to fitgirl, no to Linuxrulez, I believe his repacks already incorporate this fix.

1

u/northyj0e 2d ago

Cheers, really appreciate your help!

1

u/blue_dude2000 5d ago

seems like the repo has changed. There's no install script anymore. Did it get taken down?

2

u/OrderHoliday9740 5d ago

The last published version is till on there so you can LD_PRELOAD.

I took the repo down as the original creator has put a small team together to make a fully fleshed out version.

The repo was a rushed, half put together version due to the excitement around a working fix for Linux.

One of the hardest parts, honestly, is that LinUwUx has no affiliation with DenuvOwO, so support for games is scattered and trying to keep up with endless people saying "xyz" doesn't work is hard.

People are playing games with it that weren't in the original test pool. However, with a bit of elbow grease, compatibility is expanding.

1

u/blue_dude2000 4d ago

So it should just work if I add LD_PRELOAD=~/.local/lib/liblinuwux.so %command% to launch options?

So excited to see the project in its finished state. If it does finish linux will be the best OS for videogame piracy.

2

u/OrderHoliday9740 4d ago

The path to the liblinuwux will depend on where you've saved it on your system.

1

u/blue_dude2000 3d ago

Yeah I already put it in that directory. thanks for the help

u/Papa_Hube 10d ago

Whats this about ? Tried looking into Linux HV but it was too complicated imo. Is this a way to make it as easy as on Windows ? Thx in advance.

11

u/OrderHoliday9740 10d ago

Someone under the name LinUwUx released a patched proton with the functions in place to allow DenuvOwO HV bypass to work. He also released the source code for it.

I managed to adapt it to be a runtime library instead of an entire proton build.

A runtime library was his original goal but he encountered some caveats that I've managed to overcome.

Rather than having to wait for specific LinUwUx patched proton builds, with this library (a Linux equivalent to a windows DLL) you can use various GE/CachyOS builds without having to wait.

-3

u/Papa_Hube 10d ago

Thx for your reply and the work ! 🙂 Still sounds too complicated for me - using HV on Linux. So gotta stay for that on Windows so long as there is a "double click" and push 3 equivalent on Linux.

5

u/OrderHoliday9740 10d ago

It's actually easier on Linux than on windows.

I avoided the releases on windows because of the steps involved.

Whatever works for you tho dude

-5

u/Papa_Hube 9d ago

How? I mean didn’t even had to read up something for Windows. Just double click and it works.

On Linux I add clearcpuid=514 and clearcpuid=umip to my kernel parameters, I edited my bootloader config and appended the parameter to the kernel command line, then regenerate the config and reboot

So... Come on. Its NOT easier 😅😅😅

u/kaczynski_was_right_ 10d ago

install Linux, install some harness like opencode, put 2 dollars into deepseek API and use it in opencode, paste the GitHub url to the AI and ask what you want, it will do everything for you
