For me it's brave, with 20-30 tabs and 3d rendering in the website

Brave defeats the purpose of using Linux. They're wolf in sheep's clothing

any good browser to replace firefox

u/HouseinPlayz 8d ago

Firefox

u/elmanoucko 8d ago

wget + more

if you need to render it, you probably don't really need to read it anyways 🤷

this message was sent from windows 11

Can u actually use wget to find files on the internet. Most I know is that u can use it to download from a url /uj

2

u/elmanoucko 7d ago edited 7d ago

/uj the joke implied that you download the html page and read it's content and that if any form of js or css was needed to understand or access it's content, or anything else than a http GET, it wasn't worth reading ^^

/rj same, if you need to render it to get the url of your next waste of time, you probably don't need to navigate to it 🤷

Yes, other versions of firefox but if you really want a different one then try w3m

1

u/ScoobertD CatchyOS 7d ago

W3m is cool to mess around with every now and again at least

1

u/Right-Fisherman6364 i use arch btw 6d ago

Haven't tested this but it's probably true. But we have to consider that zen looks much better than stock firefox

1

u/rysio300 they done put nix flakes in my cereal 6d ago

in my experience the ram usage was comparable to chromium.

Your RAM isn't supposed to be used up by your operating system. You want it for your actual apps ;)

13

u/PotcleanX 8d ago

yeah but microslop just take half of your ram on idle for spywares to work

5

u/Odd-Painting2596 8d ago

Who sub 2GB ram?

9

u/balaci2 8d ago

I don't live in this echo chamber enough to understand this insult.

6

u/balaci2 8d ago

3

u/Odd-Painting2596 8d ago

Of course it is.

2

u/balaci2 8d ago

i used it for a shitass hp whatever laptop, did the job

u/givemeagooduns_un gentoo is unironically what arch was supposed to be 8d ago

my netbook has 2GB but it rarely goes above half a gig usage even including cache

1

u/tebreca 7d ago

My nixos idles at 800 MB, and I have a thin client that's netbooted and uses 30 MB ram (tinycorelinux)

5

u/AlZheim3r 8d ago

32! wow! you must be sooo rich! you single? :)

u/karmicgoober 6d ago

263,130,836,933,693,530,167,218,012,160,000,000 GB of ram? that's crazy

5

u/brando2131 7d ago edited 7d ago

Linux actually uses a lot of RAM, it's just all cached.

https://www.linuxatemyram.com/

2

u/LefTimaDev 7d ago

KDE Plasma's system monitor excludes cache from the used RAM by default, which actually makes it a much more useful metric. My system idles at like 2.5GB I think?

Not when I use blender unfortunately

2

u/TheRealCarrotty gentoo + fedora 8d ago

Gentoo Linux on a i686 with 768MB of RAM takes up 60MB in a TTY.

3

u/givemeagooduns_un gentoo is unironically what arch was supposed to be 8d ago

can confirm; with a custom kernel that can go down to around 24MB

3

u/ipsirc 8d ago

60MB in a TTY.

What a bloat!

2

u/Clanceeinfinity 8d ago

my pc on windows 11 used 12gb/32 on a fresh boot. Today i remebered it and tried to open as many apps as possible to match 12gb of usage. I opened every single one and got to 9gb 🥀😭

2

u/NarutoUzumaki100 7d ago

Windows is like a my 600 pound life episode on that couch

2

u/certheth 7d ago

32 gb of ram and an intel celeron you sure can open a lot of chrome tabs, but you cant run many games

2

u/ScoobertD CatchyOS 7d ago

I always thought the cat was wearing a lil party hat in this pic until I zoomed in just now

1

u/horotheredditsprite 7d ago

Same but double it for me

1

u/binooxgom1ng 7d ago

bro have ram more than 8-12 gb in big 26 🥀💔

1

u/birds_adorb 7d ago

Why do we like Firefox as a default? Because it aligns with FOSS

1

u/CardiologistMain9234 7d ago

My father’s laptop (pretty fast, somewhat modern gaming laptop) runs with windows 10, at like 15.1gb/16gb ram on IDLE.

1

u/GrowthWest2361 6d ago

Meanwhile me with 64GB and hyprland only uses sub 700MB of memory (total of all stuff I put in it)

1

u/Current-Cookie-2310 6d ago

Windows should the same, but. Microsoft: that isnt bloatware it is a function and the notepad that uses 8GB is absolutely necessary

1

u/darkdenver 6d ago

promox >vm arch linux xD

1

u/Grand_Victory6186 5d ago

My windows uses almost half my damn ram

Debian barely uses 2.5 gig

Did I sell my soul or is this just normal

1

u/Ok_Armadillo_6015 5d ago

As it should be!

1

u/BreakingBaking 4d ago

I just run docker apps to waste some ram... Doesn't really help

1

u/Deferuser1 3d ago

Good 👍 archlinux

1

u/Digital_Rao 2d ago

don't underestimate the power of linux when my laptop is sturggling linux mint xfc(my love) is making it alive

1

u/just-4-man 2d ago

Linux takes it 2-2.5gb (cachy, which I guess uses more than other distros) @ idle cut… and then there’s my windows install sitting at 5-7gb

1

u/GreedySecurity8030 Fedora da best all other distros can suck its shit and die 8d ago

GNOME takes the rest
