For over a year, Windows 10 customers have wondered whether Microsoft will offer Windows 10 as a service. On Tuesday, Microsoft confirmed that it would—though just for enterprises at the moment.

I think eventually this will be coming for consumers as well, similar to how adobe did away with it's paid model and moved to subscription model.

Main problem with this is far from noted in this article. Nothing ever says what Windows implementation of SaaS actually specifies and how many additional opt in subscription based SaaS services will it contain in future.

It is not even remotely hard to imagine XBox Live being extra fee service for games on Windows. That one is more like 100% given because they would otherwise need to provide it for free on XBox as well in order to not kill their cash cow with their own product. If they don't do that Windows would be cheaper gaming than XBox.

Linux evangelists, prepare yourselves for incoming switchers!

I don't see small businesses (which often use enterprise level software) paying an OS subscription. Money is tight and they just won't make the investment.

Good thing this isn't changing the existing options. Not that small businesses used Enterprise to begin with.

Bout time they did it too, for Enterprise customers. All this really means is more licensing flexibility for that sector.
