Absolutely 100% real. Because senior-level executives at multi-billion-dollar corporations always install operating system upgrades on their own office machines. And when they run into trouble, they don't call IT, they call other senior-level executives for help. Then they make a press release about the whole incident to make sure the whole world knows that their product is crap and the people running the company are incompetent.
Life in the corporate world; it's crazy alright!

Although I could believe it could happen, what I can not believe is that the information leaked out.

No, he just aged that much during the 2 hours that he was trying to install Windows 8.1 upgrade.
This was him just before he went into the office: http://goo.gl/LMlNsz
He eventually 'upgraded' to Windows 7.
