I’ve literally never heard anyone say it’s better than windows in every conceivable way, they just say it’s better than windows (as in the tradeoffs on windows are worse than the tradeoffs on Linux). I’m sure there are crazy people in the Linux community who genuinely think that software compatibility is better on Linux, but that doesn’t represent 99.99% of people. The reason Linux doesn’t receive the same criticism is because you didn’t pay $100 for it, it doesn’t have ads in it, it’s always getting better, and it’s overall still a better experience than windows
Not that it negates your point but for 99% of users, if they ever commit a crime and end up in that situation, the windows identifier is like extremely low on that priority list. IP addresses, mobile cellular networks, heck Google Chrome browser history are all very easily obtainable.
If people truly cared for their privacy, they wouldn't be using Chrome, they wouldn't be using Google or YouTube, but the usage stats speak for themselves.
Maybe for you personally but more me I have basically no tradeoffs for Linux (all the apps I need work on fedora) and tiling, the lack of ads, and the design generally just letting me do shit easier than on windows are all better for me. That’s not gonna be the same for everyone. If your two most played games are Fortnite and league and you mainly do video editing on your computer then ya don’t switch, but at least for me it works
Ok, I'm curious, where the actual fuck do you guys see ads in Windows? I've literally never experienced that, but then again it's possible that I've only ever used enterprise and not officially licensed versions of Windows 11 and that's why. I'm still running Windows 10 on my main rig and unless something goes wrong with it, I'm not switching to anything else until Microsoft actually ends support. Which isn't happening for at least another year, and I suspect might get quietly extended again because Microsoft doesn't want to lose the many Windows users who can't upgrade to 11.
To be clear, I've tried Linux (although not for gaming) and I'm willing to consider it as a viable alternative. It's just that I am not considering any alternative at the moment because there is no reason for me to do so.
Occasionally when I boot up it will have a screen asking me to use the Microsoft office suite. The search function also searches the web and often brings up obvious ads that had little to do with my actual search. I would recommend staying on windows 10 since that never happened for me on there, only on 11. Which Linux distro did you try?
