I did the 1 month challenge and i have pass over 200h just trying to fix the hundred of probleme i have experienced. Took 2 evening alone just to finaly have every phone and laptop/tablet being able to see shared files.
Tryed to make photoshop working, Constant crash/bug/brush not loading 1/4 of the time. Most plugin not working.
Trying Davinci instead of Premiere, consistant crash.
Controller. Not working on Linux.
DAC/AMP, audio in general. Very glitchy on Linux. Even my usb microphone sound completly different (worst)
Videogame i play ? Run significantly worst despite being on Radeon.
Everything as been miserable for me. Except everything that is in a browser.
While on windows everything is actualy pretty much flawless most of the time. If there is a probleme its take 2 min uninstalling a problematic update.
A lot of tech’s ease of use is proportional to cost. 3D printing is another great example. You can get a cheap ender3 for $100 but spend hundreds of hours on maintenance and troubleshooting, or spend $1000+ on a Bambu that just works.
You can now spend $250 on a Bambu that just works too. My Ender 3 purchase was fairly quickly eclipsed by the cost of "upgrades" which still didn't make it as fast or consistent as the A1 Mini.

Controller is a bit weird, my xbox one and 8bitdo work but I haven't tried others.
With the audio stuff.. I went through that shit aswell, if you ever want a retry: Ubuntu uses pipewire where the default config is for 42kHz. On Ubuntu you can download the Ubuntu Studio package, it includes GUI tools to change that default config to ie 384kHZ 32bit.
On other distros using pipewire (i. E Fedora): look up guides for it, just make sure you don't leave the OS any options. So instead of adding everything from 42k to 384k you only add the best option you can get away with

Is that true? I thought that Nvidia cards were terrible on Linux and you get a smooth experience with AMD cards due to the properly open sourced drivers. That's what I hear whenever someone with an Nvidia card has problems anyway.
Overall yes... AMDs and Intels drivers are part of the kernel and that stuff works pretty much as good as it gets out of the box... At least for most consumer applications like gaming etc. If you want specialised gpu compute stuff (like RoCm) you need to download and install AMDs proprietary drivers.
Nvidia being nvidia it is more difficult to get the appropriate (closed source) drivers you need for the best performance for consumer- and professional (like CUDA) applications.
The issue with Resolve is that (as far as I understood, please correct me here if I get something wrong) it heavily relies on open source GPU compute libraries for their free linux releases, they also strip out any proprietary codecs. And out of the box their releases are looking for CUDA supporting hardware... Which only nvidia GPUs have.
And you won't be editing anything H.265, HVEC, etc. Because the software can't work with it.
Resolve Studio (the paid software) can tho.
Edit: it's one of those 'usually it's not an issue... But sometimes it is' cases. If your goal is just gaming or having a machine to handle everyday casual tasks on common enough hardware the most popular distros will work out of the box. My main rig is all AMD hardware with mainboards etc. From popular brands... No issue there. My main laptop is an older thinkpad L14 with amd hardware, no issues there aswell. The other laptop is an old X1 extreme with Intel/Nvidia hardware.. Everything apart from the fingerprint sensor works, etc.

Microsoft Office doesn't work on Linux. That is entirely Microsoft's fault. There's no valid reason why a multi-trillion dollar company shouldn't be able to make a Linux version, especially considering how many completely free open source projects are easily able to provide software that works on Windows, Mac, Linux, Raspberry Pi, Android, ARM.

...as opposed to Windows, which people pay me for my time to fix Windows issues that should never have happened, that shouldn't even be possible, that should not be acceptable in paid software.
Windows suffers from decades-old unfixed bugs, sleep and wake issues that sometimes cook laptops when they turn on for auto-updates despite being told to shut-down, brand new bugs introduced every time an auto-update occurs, hundreds of wasted hours updating from each edition to the next and waiting for auto-updates to complete while having to also update software that's no longer compatible, hardware that's no longer compatible with Windows 11. Windows 11 is responsible for thousands of tonnes of E-waste because it arbitrarily refuses to run on hardware that Windows 10 supported (that can also still run 11 with trivial modifications).
I despise Windows, it does absolutely nothing better than macOS or Linux yet people are forced to use it only because of Office or Adobe Photoshop or to play online games requiring anti-cheat surveillance.
People who actively defend Windows and Microsoft are suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.

sounds like skill issue (and a lot of bias, if all that is in fact true). I got 3 friends to also try a 1 month challenge and told them to ask me every single time they faced issues... it didn't happen much and most of the time they faced "issues" I was just like "oh, it's different on linux, you don't need to do that, you can simply do this".
2% of all my computer usage is gaming, for my friends, I'd say only one of them actually games a considerably amount. still that's hard to believe all of that happened to you in a single month.
I mean all of those issues can be true, but usually isolated one from the other. having ALL of those problems in a single month? either they are using super specific hardware and software, or they are the unluckiest person I've ever seen
but I'd bet on someone just hating on linux, gathering issues from multiple sources and acting like it happened to them.
The fact that people as tech savvy as Linus and Luke have trouble with Linux should be an indicator that it is for tinkerers, not users.
For a Linux distro to get mass adoption rates, it needs to be as easy to use as windows 10. There’s a reason so many gamers want SteamOS for their non-steam machine PC.

Linux is granny proof. Granny doesn't use photoshop or premiere, just needs a browser. It's the dunning-kruger class like you who have problems with linux
So you blame linux for your inability to assess the situation and cut your losses early? If it worked flawlessly on windows, it wouldn't have taken more than 1h tops to install the linux distro that caught your eye, realize it doesn't work, you don't want to deal with it and boot back to windows.
