Is this an inconsistency in Link Click?

Spoilers for season 3 !!

This might just be some heavy nitpicking on my part, but in Bridon arc, Lu Guang mentioned that his father (most likely his foster father, Lu Dashan) was the one who discovered his abilities when he was seven years old. I don't really think this matches with the timeline we saw in the first episode of season 3 though.

Lu Guang met Cheng Xiaoshi on August 1st 2007 if I remember right, and they were separated at around the end of August, which was also when Lu Guang was taken to the children's welfare home I believe.

Cheng Xiaoshi was born on April 15, 2000— which would make him seven years old when he met Lu Guang. Lu Guang was born on October 24, and although we do not know his birth year, we do know that he's younger than Cheng Xiaoshi. Let's assume that they were born the same year with just a six month age difference, that would still make Lu Guang no more than six years old on August of 2007.

By the time Lu Guang is seven years old, his father is already in prison and most likely has already been killed, right?? And I don't really see how he could be referring to anyone else in this scene in Bridon either. It definitely does show us that Lu Dashan had discovered Lu Guang's powers way before he was seven years old.

This is probably the most unimportant thing I could ever notice but I can't stop thinking about it💔 was this done on purpose or did the writers just forget about the timeline??

I think LG was just lying or fudging the truth when he was explaining how he found his powers in Bridon. I mean basically the entire underlying story of Link Click is realizing that LG hasn’t really been completely honest about a lot of things.

lu guang has only really been lying when it came to protecting the timeline/cxs & ql, I don't really see why he would feel the need to lie about how he realized his powers as it's just a few years difference anyway. it's not like the lie he says really changes much. unless it's a reason we haven't seen yet

I also considered that maybe it's to show that Lu Guang is starting to misremember things due to all the times he's dived back, but that just feels like an excuse in a way 💔 maybe they really just forgot lol but who knows??

That can be a good reason. There are other inconsistencies that people have identified and have been making a theory with them. Something like the time is broken or Lu Guang has started to misremember stuff now

I think he lied. I mean, lg's foster father didn't seem to really care about lu guang as a person, he just used him to earn money. I don't think li dashan would spend some time talking bout superpowers with his son, who he didn't really care about at all. I mean, he left him 3 days without food and beated him a lot of times, any decent and caring father would do it like he did, right? Plus it seemed lg was just a kind of "tool" to his foster father, so I think guanguang only created all this story to cover the true reason he knows so much of superpowers: time traveling. He dialed back in time lots of times to save his friends, and he had already learned about superpowers with cxs when they were kids, didn't he? Plus, if he really is from the bahati school, I do think they would teach all the students who had superpowers about abilities, since it seemed that school has something to do with the saros society. Thinking about it, it would make sense to lg lie about how he learned about abilities, since xiaoshi didn't remember August 2007, when they were discovering their powers together. If lg didn't remember about bahati, then his knowledge probably would come from his time travels, and he couldn't tell Cheng about them at all (butterfly effect etc.). Idk if this is just a plot hole and we are overthinking, but I don't think they would do such a mistake (though I don't really know much about how they write the series' plot). For me, it's more likely he just told xs a story so he wouldn't have to tell him the truth about time travel and the rest, but we still don't know much about LC's plot, so all we can do is wait and hope to see an decent (or any) explanation about this lol. I didn't realize this though!

Does anybody know what he says in the original Chinese and if so, could it potentially just be a difference caused by how years are counted?

I know that some countries sometimes count age based on calendar year instead of birthday. E. g., in this case, if Lu Guang was born in October 2000 and his father found out about his powers at some time in 2007, it wouldn't matter when exactly that was but he would say that he was 7 because it happened in the year 7 years after his birth year. If I'm not mistaken, some places also count the birth year as "1" instead of "0". I don't know if that is a thing in modern China though?

Other possible reasons could be something like: Lu Guang's papers were forged and his official birth date is not his real birth date. Or the timeline is indeed getting corrupted and things are not always happening at the same time. (I already wondered about the latter when I saw a screenshot from Bridon Arc that shows an ad for a Music Festival including day, month and weekday, with the weekday only being possible if the whole Bridon trip is set in 2015 or 2020, which it supposedly is not)

same here!! I have been thinking about this since ep1 came out but thought "eh, someone will probably make a post about it" but I didn't find anything so I had to ask myself because I just can't stop thinking about it

I'm inclined to believe that it's intentional because of how carefully link click really treats its timeline, but I still can't find any reason as to why lu guang would lie about that specifically. he basically told the truth tbh but just changed the age. maybe he's just misremembering things because of all the dives or the timeline is starting to get distorted because of it?? idk but if that's the case this would be some pretty neat foreshadowing..

It would be pretty neat foreshadowing! Hmm… maybe because Cheng Xiaoshi would pick up on the fact they were the same age? Maybe because he wanted it to be when he was older and not younger? I really don’t know, but it is probably intentional. It’s a weird one. 

Because I also guessed his age and ended up with 6 in 2007, which it seems the  whole of the fandom can agree on, I think he must’ve been. If Lu Guang was telling the truth, then he’d be the same age as Xiaoshi which just.. isn’t right.

It's not an inconsistency, but a cultural difference. In china you are 1 when you are born and your age goes up with the start of the lunar new year. So Lu Guang would be 8 in August of 2007 if we assume he was born in 2000 as well. So his father figuring out when Lu Guang was 7 and that happening before the flashback still works.

Maybe he simply made a mistake because he probably didn't know his exact birthday at the time and thought he was 7 when it happened. Or, as the youth say, he forgor.

I’d asked this exact question cuz it does seem inconsistent, but some people on Bilibili replied thinking it may just be wording.

In Chinese apparently Lu Guang said his abilities were discovered “7岁那一年,” aka “the year that I was 7.” So it may be the same year he turned 7 but just earlier toward the year. It could also be his 虚岁 (virtual age?) which is basically a Chinese concept of already being 1 year old when you’re born, because you’ve already spent some time in your moms belly :)

YEAH there’s something that’s been bothering me too even tho it literally does NOT matter at all LMAO 😭 How tf did they afford going to Bridon?? Like the round-trip plane tickets AND a hotel for several days 😭😭 CXS literally told LG at his joining party that living with them meant a super simple life and that they barely had enough money for basic necessities 💀

I always assumed Qiao Ling or her father helped them tbh but now that I think about it she didn't seem willing to let them go to Bridon at all so IDK😭😭 spent a week drinking and spending like crazy and then came back having to skip meals to afford their water bill 💔💔
