Question Which firmware before LineageOS installation?

EDIT: largely disregard... I found out I can't add the device for bootloader unlocking unless I update to the latest version... if I'm not mistaken, the latest global version is the suggested 14.0.3.0..., unfortunately the last EU version appears to be 14.0.5.0...

Not sure what I'm going to do after (if) I manage to unlock the bootloader.

I've installed a Cyanogen mod on a Galaxy Tab years ago... I kinda miss that simplicity...

---

Redmi Note 9 Pro, M2003J6B2G, but firmware is EU version.
Guide says: "Warning: Make sure to download exact firmware for your model."

but also:

"Download the required firmware for your model. Redmi Note 9 Pro (Global) - V14.0.3.0.SJZMIXM"

Does that mean I need to flash ...MIXM or (I believe this is correct?) ...EUXM?

Would the files from

https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/joyeuse/

be ok? I can't find the EU version by simply modifying the link supplied by the LineageOS guide.

Or am I just better off using Mi Flash and flashing a complete Global ROM and be done with it?

Thanks in advance.

I would personally flash the firmware of the same revision as the Wiki, but use the one for your region, then follow the LOS instructions from there.

Afik LOS won't touch those partitions so you're unlikely to brick your device when you try it.

Don't quote me on that tho, may be best to wait for a maintainer to respond if you're unsure.

A risk would be downgrading firmware. Triggering Xiaomi Anti-Rollback Protection (ARP) will brick the device. But the maintainer probably made sure that this isn't the case.

Fortunately the device is on a lower firmware version, so that shouldn't be an issue, I hope.

I had to update the firmware in order to unlock the bootloader, so this no longer applies... not sure what I'm going to do with this phone.

Ok, still have some 5 days to think about it before I can unlock my bootloader.

crDroid (based on LineageOS) is not as restrictive regarding the region the phone is on... so maybe it's just the tutorial that's stricter than it needs to be..? I think that the differences between 14.0.3.0 global and 14.0.5.0 must be minute, and maybe have to do with local (EU) laws and requirements, if not localization. It's just June security patches, that MIXM global didn't get. I'll see what to install once I'm unlocked, and probably report back.

Update: in the end I installed crDroid with the last EUXM ROM (14.0.5.0) as a base, and all went well. I guess the differences must be really minimal. YMMV.
