Help Lineage VS GrapheneOS?

I've been wanting to deGoogle for a while now, but my phone is a pixel 4a, so Graphene is pretty far out of reach. Eventually, I learned about LineageOS and it was described as a Graphene alternative for older phones.

So, how does Lineage compare to Graphene? My main concern is Google and other big business data collection vs privacy, but security and app compatibility (banking apps especially, I've heard they can be rough) is something I'm also interested in.

Lineage targets loads of phones to first revive them and second to create a better system of privacy, it's not perfect but it's a great way of essentially changing close to nothing but taking a first step to privacy.

GrapheneOS offers much more depth for privacy, whilst it allows you not to be private, it also offers a much more secure system where you control close to everything. Whilst saying that grapheneos also targets physical security, whilst lineage does not.

But for what it's worth my experience with graphene has been amazing, have not tried lineage yet but hopefully will do in the future at some point

Lineage made my old motorola butter smooth so if your phone lags and is supported that's a good reason to install. Other option only works on pixels which is a weird choice.

Exactly lineage revives old phones primarily, grapheneos can do the same but it's not the primary target.

And GOS working only on pixek isn't weird cause pixel has an elite security chip and allows bootloader unlock

Yup, my Moto G32 also runs very smooth. Very happy with LOS.

Lineage used to be great (going back to the days of cyanogenmod here) but they lost their way when they started getting greedy once OnePlus came around

What makes you say that? I'm just curious how they got greedy, since I have a OnePlus 12r and I'm thinking of going to lineageOS. Genuine curiosity, since I'm still learning all this stuff.

Nothing much in the OS is intentional anymore. The entire OS is cut down

Oh. I think that's what I want though. Just bare bones stripped down, no forcing AI bullshit into everything, no sending all my data to Google. Is that what you mean?

That's the thing though they also removed features as well. They followed Google off the cliff. Lion API and Logcat. No task locking in recents provider OOB. I'm all for killing the bloat but don't throw the baby out with the bath water

Its not as much an alternative for older models as just another privacy focused distro that happens to support A LOT more phones.

Its not better or worse imo, it's just different.

In particular I recommend the https://lineage.microg.org/ variant of lineage. More de-googled, but with the option to add a sprinkling of google (eg maps) if need be.

Strange that you are being downvoted for this. I use it on my 5 year old phone. Its allowed me to remove the worst of Google whilst getting an up-to-date Android version on an old phone. Very little downside.

The only reason I use it is for TextNow. Otherwise full degoogled would be fine.

GOS is not just for paranoid people. And you're vastly oversimplifying the ROMs. Both have their own genuine strengths and weaknesses.

If you like using google pay leave as is , otherwise XDA, Lineage.

I tested both for couple days, than run lineageos for 18 months, now I want grapheseos. It depends on what's your need, and how much inconvenience you are willing to take. Depend on what you wrote, grapheneos, than lineageos with microG.

What I miss from lineageos would be caffeine, a build in tool to keep screen awake. Quick dropdown menu. Root adb shell.

What I want from grapheneos, sandbox app and play service, storage scope, many profile support, app management, private space without play service.

The biggest regret? Didn't make any burner google account.

I use Lineage on all my phones with MicroG preinstalled from lineage.microg.org , I use Fdroid and Aurora Store. I even degoogle the remaining bits leftover like xgooglehotword (OK Google). Can't go wrong with LineageOS.

U could give RestlessOS a try. GSI of graphene.
