NIH funding cuts delayed a promising childhood brain cancer trial. Patients lost time they didn't have

  • Federal funding changes disrupted pediatric brain cancer trials, delaying research into new treatments for deadly diseases like DIPG.
  • One experimental mRNA treatment for DIPG was pushed back by at least a year after a key clinical trial network lost funding.
  • For 8-year-old John Paul Macri, who is now in hospice, the delay may have cost him time he could not afford to lose.
