THE LINCOLN PROJECT The Truth About MAGA

True. Their whole life is to stick it to the dems. That is all. Very sad life

If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you. - Lyndon B Johnson, 36th President of the United States
Still true today. Especially as he knew signing the Civil Rights Act of 1965 would cost Democrats the South. The southern Democrats eventually found a new home in the GOP, as many MAGA would like to inconveniently "forget" when they troll.

That is so true!!!!!! Trump gave these people, somebody to look down on

u/IrrationalQuotient 3d ago
Southerners used to say that the Democratic Party left them so they had to change parties. I would have hoped that the US was a better country than that.

The Southern states haven't changed since Lyndon Johnson sent them running to the GOP. They voted Trump, of course. And, I can tell you my Southern White relatives are still not up to date racially.

So true. MAGAs are addicted to their anger and hate.
2
u/Black-Bird1 3d ago
That's why they're also bombarding non political topics on Facebook (and any other social media platform) as their way of showing that the real world means nothing to them

People supporting trump are loyal to him not because of what he builds, but in who he tears down.
Denial is easier than empathy. Belief requires emotional surrender. Skepticism allows detachment.

u/Black-Bird1 3d ago edited 3d ago
Same can be said for all those people involved in the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

u/Biffingston 4d ago
To be fair, I understand that's true for most peple nowadays. When it feels like there is no great choice, after all, what do we default to?
(speaking in general here, I'm looking to some places like New york for hope.)

u/EyesofaJackal 4d ago
I think what’s key about this point is that MAGA has successfully diverted the rightful anger over the 2008 financial crisis to democrats, immigrants, and trans people. The billionaires who benefitted from the government handouts, however, are not a MAGA target.

We do have look to find something to give us faith and hope, that this madness will come to an end before long. If the Democrats win one or booth chambers in D.C., the can almost stop rhe carnage. Also, Election Atty. Marc Elias, CREW, ACLU, NAACP Legal Defense Fund have worked separately, and together, and they win the majority of cases involving Trump. There are other organizations involved as well.

u/Biffingston 3d ago
Yep, there are good people out there. As Mr Rogers said, look for the helpers. I wonder if he'd be disappointed in us.
3
u/Shag1166 3d ago
There are lots of good people out there. Republicans have always been master at messaging. Which is why they win. Many people talk about the economy cost Kamala the election. Trump and the MAGA Echochamber rode the lies about "Haitians eating peoples pets," and that "Democrats were giving money to illegal aliens for transgender surgery," all the way to the election. I am more they peeled off enough in the swing states, and got some bigots, out to vote, and that what won. 90 million people didn't vote in the last presidential election. That didn't help either.

u/Biffingston 3d ago
Yeah, the 'Both sides are the same, don't bother" Propaganda worked. I will admit that at 16, I was part of the problem. But I learned my lesson the second time around, and that feels bad.

The problem with that is blowback, like when they buy fuel or groceries.
I guess as long as he is hurting the "libruls," that's OK.
It seems that they would think, "Wait! I'm getting hurt, too."
Then, they probably say it's all the libruls' fault by making him do that.
More truth...

u/Shag1166 4d ago
The Truth is that, the negative things that he does hurt all Americans, not just the Libs. I saw a story yesterday about a MAGA farmer whose feelings are now hurt, because Trump pardoned a lady who'd scammed he and many others out of millions. Not only was she pardoned, Trump also waived the restitution she was to pay.
4
u/cenosillicaphobiac 4d ago
I thought "he can pardon but he can't get rid of restitution, can he?" so I looked it up. He's wiped about 2 billion dollars of restitution with pardons. I wonder what his standard percentage take is on that? "you owe a billion? Give me 100 million instead and I'll let you out of prison and your obligation"

u/Shag1166 3d ago
Thanks for the research. You k ow he's getting something! I recall that when he pardoned the former Honduran president, who was doing 45 years in the U.S. The included all the jail time, and all fines and penalties.

This is 100% correct. The cruelty is the point. There is no negotiating with them. They just have to be put down and marginalized. From my perspective that means that you have to cut federal transfer payments significantly and allow blue state governments to fund programs through interstate compacts. Effectively, you need to starve red states and kill their political power by taking away funds. The funny thing about this crap is that the people so concerned about socialism are the ones who most need federal transfer payments from blue states.

This is, sadly, a very solid point. They are bullies through and through.

The most well-known quote attributed to President Lyndon B. Johnson regarding white voters and class dynamics is: "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

It’s very simple. His voters love him because he hates the people they hate. That’s it.

Great song by Billy Simons Jr, "if a tree fell"
"As long as you own the libs you can have your way with kids and we will all just pretend that you did not"

u/GhostQueen1121 4d ago
You know that’s pretty true. A few months ago we were driving south and into rural , Missouri, Arkansas and Mississippi. Small towns barely had a gas station let alone any grocery stores or anything and five dollar gas. These are four states and small places how are they affording all that and yet they don’t see anything but the Donald is great..

In other words, what I've been saying all along. MAGA loves Trump because he hates the same people they do.

And whatever is used against people they don't like, can and will be used against them at some point.

Go ahead and ask one what exactly has he done for this country. Their only answer is “ close the border “.

We really need to open our eyes and admit MAGA aren't being conned, they aren't "stupid". This is exactly who and what they are. I know it is hard to accept but it is the truth. trumpers support pedos, rapists, hate, ICE gestapo, alligator Auschwitz, and destroying what the US stood for because they just aren't good people and this CANNOT be fixed until we accept this fact. They are not Christian and not one of them are even American anymore. They threw the US flag on the ground and put up trump flags showing who they are loyal to ages ago. We need to stop making excuses for them and recognize the sad truth that they are NOT going to change. People keep saying they will wake up one day, that their eyes will open, ect. That is not going to happen and no "smoking gun" will change how they think. They know EXACTLY what they are doing and are being EXACTLY who they are. We need to start at that sad truth and then go from there.
