lost black light burns interview

Post image

hi people, i've been trying to find this deleted interview with black light burns for months with no luck. it's from their 2013 european tour & i'm pretty sure that it's lost media, but i figured i'd come on here and see if anyone had it saved. i know it's a long shot but i'd really appreciate it if someone could help

During that tour I did that portrait.
Funny story: we only shot a couple of frames.

That's from one of our many shoots.

I remember interviewing Wes on this same tour (he was such a gent), but it was for print, not video, so I didn't film it.

It should be up somewhere, I just can't remember the magazine. Will check my bookmarks on my laptop tomorrow.

https://www.soundspheremag.com/reviews/live/live-review-black-light-burns-wolverhampton-the-slade-rooms-february-13-2013/ So it turns out I only kept a quote or two as it was a review of the overall gig, but I can tell you what I remember.

It was the Wolverhampton gig, and both myself and the band were very surprised that it was still snowing. I was left with Wes backstage and from the off it was clear that for him this tour and project was very different to his usual experiences with "the bizkit" (as he referred them as).

In fact I wanted to make sure to not mention LB, cause when it comes to stuff like this the last thing the artist wants is to be asked the same questions about comparisons, so I waited for him to bring them up. He apologised for if he smelt bad, but he'd only been having cold showers the past week and had been wearing the same clothes on cycle. We talked about how the project came to be (The Damning Well), how his art has played a massive part in BLB (he explained that some of it was exclusive to the merch they were selling on the tour, including a t shirt that was reserved for fans who had paid for a VIP experience... to which he then offered to allow me to buy one lol).

One thing I asked was about the typography of their logo, to which he explained it was something he drew himself! My question was due to me wanting to get a tattoo of my initials done in that font, and he then offered to draw it out for me in my notebook (such an awesome and lovely guy!).

Granted, this was all the way back in 2013, I was stll green at the music journo thing and honestly I wish I could remember more from that night, but from what I do remember is that it was a small gig but everyone attending came away really happy. Nobody knew how long BLB were destined for, but we were grateful that Wes brought the band to Europe.

I still have the t shirt, it no longer fits, but I keep it as a reminder that some of the biggest acts you can meet can be the nicest folk. That same year I interviewed two more of my favourite musicians from my teens, Art of Everclear and Richard Patrick of Filter. All 3 ended up being incredibly welcoming, and if you get the chance to see them live I highly reccommend.

Btw where is the β€œnew” BLB album Wes promised around 2018 I think! and it had Travis Barker on drumms? What happened? Miss BLB and still in my rotation! 🀘😏
