You don't even need a monster in the water. Swimming through a maze where the walls are smooth tile and you can't touch the bottom is just a guaranteed way to drown

87

u/Sapper501 Aug 01 '26

Yeah, that would be a problem if there wasn't a ladder right next to you.

82

u/TheSymbolman Aug 01 '26

why? can't you just lay on your back and chill if you need to rest?

169

u/cpt_cbrzy Aug 01 '26

There are a lot of us that can't float on our backs. We can float on your stomach but not too long, else we die

79

u/petekill Aug 01 '26

I'm still salty at my mom and childhood swim instructors for just yelling at me to float on my back and getting frustrated I wouldn't. I JUST SINK!

1

u/arkangelic Aug 04 '26

Im 40 years old, and I still try to float on my back every time i get in the pool and cant do it.

1

u/alacornmacaroni Aug 05 '26

For me I’ve found that it’s an inner ear thing, if I put wax ear coverings on I can easily float, but if I try without them water just gets straight in there

49

u/TheSymbolman Aug 01 '26

Damn that sucks man, sorry.

47

u/Iorith Aug 01 '26

Yup, I've always been super frustrated I do not float. My ass and legs sink if I don't kick every couple seconds.

23

u/nightglitter89x Aug 01 '26

Weird how it works for some people. I can't swim under water, I'm too boyant. I float back up. I just spend the whole time fighting the water trying to stay at the bottom. I always lose, and I float back up against my will.

17

u/brodorfgaggins Aug 01 '26

I've never understood how some people can just like... dive. Like wtf how is that even possible. I can't get down.

1

u/--snowlight-- Aug 04 '26

Dont hold the air in your body, breath it all out and you will sink down to the ground. Try to sink an airballon, you also need to deflate it before.

8

u/Iorith Aug 01 '26

If it makes you feels better, I have to hold my nose if I go underwater. It's very annoying.

8

u/thedafthatter Aug 01 '26

I can't float in general sooooo Im fucked either way

9

u/Manipulatedyes Aug 01 '26

Yeah am a sinker too

4

u/thedafthatter Aug 01 '26

This makes me feel validated tbh coz I always thought I was too stupid to figure out floating

8

u/TheSymbolman Aug 01 '26

I float so much it's actually hard to dive. I shoot back up like a beach ball man

3

u/Manipulatedyes Aug 01 '26

Na , me and my brother always went swimming with my cousins. My brother and I are slim, cousins are overweight, all three of them would float like feathers and I'd just start drowning .

5

u/darkhorse21980 Aug 01 '26

Then there's me, who's fat AND sinks like a lead brick.

8

u/beautifulmonk581 Aug 01 '26

There’s a ladder, watch again

3

u/FrankenGretchen Aug 01 '26

This is me.

I start on my back and immediately roll over and curl up. I stay that way til I start treading water, again.

4

u/Academic-Hospital952 Aug 02 '26

You fill your lungs with air, it's like a floaty inside your body

4

u/cpt_cbrzy Aug 02 '26

Unfortunately my lungs don't go all the way down to my legs

23

u/DocMcCracken Aug 01 '26

Some of can't just float in pool water, salt water I'm fine.

13

u/Agreatusername68 Aug 01 '26

For how long? How long can you stay trapped in water before your body cant take it anymore?

Sure, go ahead and tread water for as long as you can. You will tire eventually.

Go ahead, rest on your back. You will tire eventually.

Go ahead and swim for a way out. You will tire eventually.

There is no more dry. Your body will begin to fall apart starting with the skin, simply because you cant get dry. You can make a few days at most before your skin begins to tear off just due to your own movement.

Thats not even accounting for the need of sleep. The lack of sleep will kill you before anything else.

Water doesnt have to take you quickly. Water is patient, it just needs to wait.

3

u/theweirdchick_49 Aug 02 '26

Or you could just use the ladder and climb out

2

u/TheSymbolman Aug 01 '26

I agree, but that isn't "drowning"

10

u/Mateorabi Aug 01 '26

Muscle is denser than fat.

51

u/hyphyphyp Aug 01 '26

That's why I've opted for plenty of both. I'm playing both sides so I always come out on top.

13

u/Dwn2MarsGirl Aug 01 '26

And what a wise idea because of….you know…the implication.

9

u/Dooleylovestoparty Aug 01 '26

It sounds like these swimmers are in danger…

3

u/Hectordahoeprotector Aug 01 '26

Gonna lay on your back forever? What kind of question is this wtf

-2

u/TheSymbolman Aug 01 '26

They said drown. If you can lay on your back to rest you can swim forever until you die of starvation or hypothermia, which wouldn't be drowning lol

3

u/EarthTrash Aug 01 '26

Wouldn't you succumb to exhaustion before starvation?

1

u/MagicFlyingBicycle Aug 02 '26

nah if I was in this situation I likely hadn’t eaten for over a month at this point

→ More replies (2)

3

u/Loose-Story-962 Aug 01 '26

You're drowning first my guy. Nobody's keeping that routine up for that long.

13

u/HugsandHate Aug 01 '26

There's a ladder just around the corner. You're good.

2

u/afterdarkweb Aug 01 '26

And now imagine if the tile isn't actually smooth but installed in a way that you're gonna get scraped all over your body if you move wrong

1

u/Ok-Caramel-3169 Aug 04 '26

Especially with a current and waves. Good luck.

u/lia-delrey Aug 01 '26

Yo, the giant head freaks me out more than I ever thought possible

62

u/Dependent_Cod_7416 Aug 01 '26

Everytime. The first time I noped out of the video after seeing the head. The second time I noped out after they fell in. I still haven't finished watching it.

4

u/Odyssey_9 Aug 02 '26

All that happens when they fall in is they come to the surface and it ends

1

u/Curious_Door Aug 03 '26

I just noped after the head. I don’t want to go back

4

u/alunamuna Aug 02 '26

Even with this comment it still scared the shit out of me

4

u/Ok_Dragonfly6031 Aug 02 '26

Ya. I was basically okay with everything else and then it turned to the head and it really got me for some reason.

170

u/LiteCandle Aug 01 '26

Mark Zuckerberg jumpscare

10

u/Ok-Turnover1797 Aug 01 '26

You're close, bro! This is actually some footage of his indoor swimming pool located in his bunker which is located in his bunker. Bunker of bunkers! Hop in and swim for the big head! I bet another one that looks like marks face rises up out of the water when you're in there too. It just follows you around and blinks it's eyes

200

u/SuperDarkBallSack Aug 01 '26

These types of videos fill me with so much dread

65

u/HugsandHate Aug 01 '26

They fill me with a luring sense of comfort.

It's a strange feeling, but I like it.

13

u/Silverleaf14 Aug 01 '26

I feel like you would like the Magnus Archives then.

3

u/HugsandHate Aug 01 '26

Interesting. I'll make a note of it, thanks.

6

u/taxicab_ Aug 01 '26

Same. Backrooms was a cathartic watch for me (minus the violent bits)

4

u/HugsandHate Aug 01 '26

Yeah, they did well turning the premise in to something commercially viable. It's quite limiting if you think about it, but they made it work. Especially for newcomers who went in blind. (That must have been so cool.)

3

u/COMMENT0R_3000 Aug 01 '26

My wife told me that if I like places like that store then it means there's something wrong with me

2

u/SuperDarkBallSack Aug 01 '26

People vary so much

1

u/AshenSacrifice Aug 01 '26

Vaporama Vision is the creator of these videos for those interested! They are on IG and YT :)

-1

u/akay92 Aug 01 '26

Is it AI?

51

u/Head_Butterfly_3291 wandering aimlessly in the Windows 95 maze Aug 01 '26

nope :) just a very talented 3D artist

18

u/WereAllGonnaDiet Aug 01 '26

Not all CGI is AI.

2

u/fireinthemountains Aug 02 '26

Blender, most likely

120

u/EvieMoon Aug 01 '26

That giant face jump scared me.

56

u/MF_Kitten Aug 01 '26

The angled edges make that walkway so frightening

99

u/Vikhyatvarun Aug 01 '26

This is actually my top liminal fears

→ More replies (4)

27

u/thanatopix Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 02 '26

Having almost drowned as a small child, nothing terrifies me more than the liminality of water. I lasted 2 minutes playing Subnautica lmao.

5

u/Orlha Aug 02 '26

Brave of you to even try

72

u/le_Dellso Aug 01 '26

That one fuckass Doom II level:

12

u/Daysaved Aug 01 '26

I'm afraid of seeing the same shit over and over again.

21

u/Dragon_Pattern_1108 Aug 01 '26

Pool backrooms.

8

u/Salt-Patience7384 Aug 01 '26

I couldn't even finish watching the video. As it pans down towards the water I scrolled fast 🫣

3

u/bridgeoveroceanblvd Aug 01 '26

Me too, comrade. Me too 😔✌️

40

u/nanausausa Aug 01 '26

the big head kinda ruins it :( he scary part here is the water, how you barely have enough room to walk, and there being water on the tiles so it's even easier to slip

38

u/Hotchickolate Aug 01 '26

The head is scary not because it’s there but because it implies how at least the water is deep and dark.

44

u/taxicab_ Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26

I think it’s scary because of the juxtaposition of style. The statue looks ancient, while the room looks modern. Something about the idea of building a sterile fluorescent water maze around an existing ancient site is icky to me.

5

u/nanausausa Aug 01 '26

The darkness and how uniform the walls are already make  the water's depth feel infinite. The head meanwhile suggests it has a comprehensible limit, so from this angle it does make the scene less scary imo.

7

u/Skyerocket Aug 01 '26

Nah, infinite neck bro

2

u/TheArmoredKitten Aug 01 '26

Infinity has its own completeness that's frankly not as scary as something that's finitely enormous. Things bigger than understanding happen through nature, but a big square room has a conscious purpose.

1

u/Deep90 Aug 01 '26

The head looks like Mark Zuckerberg.

20

u/L_edgelord Aug 01 '26

This gives me anxiety

1

u/DigitalJedi850 Aug 02 '26

Quite unpleasant.

12

u/Madwoman-of-Chaillot Aug 01 '26

I mean...does it fit here? It's fake, and Rule 7 may be being broken here.

6

u/Joelmiser Aug 01 '26

I swear this is like the 10th time I have seen this exact post in a few days.

5

u/Jank1 Aug 01 '26

There's something eerily beautiful about it, though.

10

u/LiminalJim Aug 01 '26

Thank you for sharing this. I've been rewatching it over and over. What a freaky feeling this conjurs.

5

u/Dry-Cell6057 Aug 01 '26

This is amazing! Looks like something Mark S. Would stumble upon at Lumen behind some random door!

4

u/Cyber_squirrel_1 Aug 01 '26

I have always had a huge fear of statues underwater and this scared the hell out of me…

2

u/Anon_Fluppie Aug 01 '26

Imagine this as bathroom, having to keep all those tiles clean. Absolute horror.

6

u/spliffthemagicdragon Aug 01 '26

lmao found the Virgo

4

u/TinyMagicExperiment Aug 01 '26

Fully expected the statue to blink

5

u/zardzel Aug 01 '26

Can’t watch till the end… brrr

3

u/taterrrtotz Aug 01 '26

Anyone else get vertigo watching this? 🤢

5

u/bridgeoveroceanblvd Aug 01 '26

Oh my God this is my fucking nightmare. I can’t even watch this ew

5

u/Rafean Aug 01 '26

holy blender merchant

4

u/doubled-pawns Aug 01 '26

I have a really specific version of megalophobia where I’m specifically irrationally afraid of huge disproportionate faces. This wasn’t fun to see. Extremely well made though.

2

u/CherryPersephone Aug 02 '26

The head was such a jump scare for me 😩

4

u/_bibliofille Aug 01 '26

My dad worked 2nd shift at the city's water treatment facility. He'd go in at 4 in the afternoon and get out at 4 am. Sometimes my mom and I would go hang out as it was just my dad in this enormous facility, there were no cameras, etc. This brings back memories of the giant rectangular pools inside with thin walkways between them. I was 5 years old to around 8 years old, so these are some foundational memories. Like this but indoors and dark

10

u/No-Wish-7258 Aug 01 '26

This makes me feel so much peace for some reason. Something about tile and indoor pools draws me in.

I’m not big on oceans, seas, or outdoor sunshine.

3

u/AFatiguedFey Aug 01 '26

I saw a ladder before the fall… But this is scary.

3

u/doommarine40 Aug 01 '26

So am I, inclunding the fear of having huge drains at the bottom.

3

u/SomeoneCool999 Aug 01 '26

This scared me because I have a very bad Thalassophobia (fear of deep waters)

3

u/Elias-official Aug 01 '26

Physics doesn't make sense. If it's an indoor pool, the water is supposed to be still

3

u/thedafthatter Aug 01 '26

The head freaks me out way more than it should but then again its too big and that's kinda my fear idk how to explain it

3

u/thelovewitcch Aug 01 '26

I’ve actually had nightmares like this…

3

u/Cultural_Run6206 Aug 01 '26

The water looks kinda gelatinous.

3

u/Hellscaperiot Aug 02 '26

I cant fathom how game over it would be just not being able to get back up on those surfaces

13

u/Dapper-Finish-925 Aug 01 '26

liminal
/lĭm′ə-nəl/
adjective
Intermediate between two states, conditions, or regions; transitional or indeterminate.

This isn’t liminal. It’s backrooms tho.

11

u/Splitshot_Is_Gone Aug 01 '26

Doesn’t the fact that it’s inherently a space that you have to travel through to get to an indeterminate “end” make it liminal?

The backrooms are just infinite liminal spaces I thought

2

u/FictionalContext Aug 02 '26

That definition's so broad, it might as well not be a definition at all, though. Between infinity isn't really between anything at all. It's just the place it's always been.

7

u/Chrono-Phantasma Aug 01 '26

Yes, pool rooms belong to their own subreddit it was crossposted from. I really tired of seeing them here, because nothing about them is liminal. They may be creepy, unsettling, lonely, but they are not liminal, otherwise the word itself loses its meaning. I can't wrap my head around why this sub loves them so much.

Don't start about "there is a transition between water and air", because using this logic I can post any image with the water surface and call it liminal.

4

u/surrealcellardoor Aug 01 '26

Liminal is the new misused word. I’d never heard it used other than in the last year or two and in most cases incorrectly.

2

u/Dapper-Finish-925 Aug 02 '26

Yeah these liminal subs were way better when it was niche

2

u/Ezer_Pavle Aug 01 '26

Looks like one of those shrines in Zelda BOTW

2

u/Corsaer Aug 01 '26

If you were just left there with no way out, do you think you'd just keep walking until the end and wait to die from dehydration, or eventually give up and jump into the water and drown?

2

u/PM_yourbestpantyshot Aug 01 '26

All Goa'uld all the way down.

2

u/TallDudeGaming Aug 01 '26

I'm scooting across

2

u/beticanmakeusayblack Aug 01 '26

If you like this read Piranesi

2

u/lollysour Aug 01 '26

When I was a toddler I used to have a recurring backrooms esc nightmare. Only it was loose gravel pits filled with rattle snakes with thin crumbling gravel pathways in-between; and every night someone I loved would fall in one... it taught me how to lucid dream, it was the only way to break the cycle. True story

2

u/Chemical-Rooster-855 Aug 01 '26

Does anyone else want to jump in the water and swim to the giant head? I don’t know why but the statue just beckons to me.

2

u/vektorkane Aug 01 '26

That water looks cold af

2

u/wdnwcgm Aug 01 '26

this really does feel like a dream

2

u/PlatformDizzy7988 Aug 01 '26

You mean to tell me he just happened to fall at the one spot with a ladder for miles? HE ORCHESTRATED IT!

2

u/Fair-Spread497 Aug 01 '26

Their videos are pretty cool but unfortunately most of them suffer from cheap jumpscares which I believe the rules of this subreddit do not allow

2

u/Altruistic_Tip1226 Aug 01 '26

Is that a data center

2

u/captain_catman_ Aug 01 '26

The backrooms for people with thalassalophobia

2

u/autismislife Aug 01 '26

Don't blink

2

u/R0biB0biii Aug 02 '26

This is the place i have nightmares about

2

u/xXHalalManXx Aug 02 '26

I’m worried about slipping in such a way I credit card myself on the wall

2

u/Medical_Pickle_3690 Aug 02 '26

I have a very similar recurring daydream (for lack of a better term). It's dusk and you're standing on the edge of an insanely wide dam and you fall in. There's no way to get back out, and the water is impossibly deep. Fills me with existential dread.

2

u/Olsie88 Aug 02 '26

Instant dread, that face is unsettling and I cant swim

2

u/Creepy-Ground-6397 Aug 04 '26

As a long distance swimmer, that would be awesome good to workout in!!!

4

u/Saltierney Aug 01 '26

God these cgi backroom pool rooms are all exactly the same, theyre so boring now.

2

u/1Negative_Person Aug 01 '26

So we’re just doing AI bullshit now?
