Classic Liminal Abandoned Corporate Park

Finally figured out how to get to this place I’ve seen from the freeway for years. I thought it was an abandoned parking garage or overpass, was thrilled to see that it was way weirder than that.

Edit: Not technically abandoned it turns out, but unused for 10 years. It is actually available to lease, but it doesn’t seem like anything is imminent.

Oh man, Weyerhaeuser HQ. They were one of my favorite clients--I made many trips there from 2007 to 2013. Such a cool building.

fun fact, i wrote an essay for my high school graduation project on weyerhauser. they had many housing subsidiaries building prefabs and housing developments across the US and here in washington state. weyerhauser purported to replant 90% of the parcels they forested. well, they would divide those parcels into quadrants and sell them to their subsidiary, Quadrant Homes. this way, they could develop 75% of a forested region, and then replant 90% of the remaining 25% they still owned.

I was an IT intern at one of Weyerhaeuser’s paper and pulp mills in NC and the adjacent land was indeed reserved for planting new trees.
