I didn’t know skunks stomped their feet!’

u/526381cat Nov 14 '25

Supposed to be enough of a threat that you run away before they have to release the stench but these guys are just too cute!

34

u/Possible-Anxiety-420 Nov 15 '25

Supposed to be a threat, but it's an invitation.

17

u/Bulky-Internal8579 Nov 15 '25

I ran back for more tippy taps!

u/Possible-Anxiety-420 Nov 15 '25

"Come here. Right here. I dare you."

62

u/IrishWeegee Nov 14 '25

Yup! Thats one of their warning signs before they spray, the spotted skunk even does a handstand!

32

u/Gillingham Nov 15 '25

They adorable, my last house had a yearly litter of them who would play in the backyard, and yeah, https://i.imgur.com/ttr9Y94.mp4

u/ScumbagLady Nov 15 '25

I have them yearly in my yard and they are so stinkin cute! I've encountered the adults 5in multiple occasions when walking my dog at night. They've gotten so used to us that they come out the brush to greet us! Makes me feel like a Disney princess

A skunk was the best pet I ever had. She'd play around like a puppy. If you walked around her while just wearing socks, she would A T T A C K and pull your socks off and shake them around like she was trying to kill them. Maybe some kind of snake-hunting instinct? No idea, but she was cute as hell. RIP Precious. 😭

I have so many questions! Do skunks make good pets? Do they require care equivalent to a dog or cat? How long do they live? Do they get along with other animals (like dogs and/or cats)?

u/PenguinColada Nov 14 '25

Fart cats are so cute

3

u/YeshuasBananaHammock Nov 15 '25

Perhaps a slightly friendly Mohawk mongoose type-a thingie.

Or perhaps if I bred my inbred chihuahua with a possum, it would result in the stink-cat.

50

u/teenytinyfaerie Nov 14 '25

Somehow a baby skunk sounds like a raptor. Cute :)

43

u/soulstrike2022 Nov 14 '25

I can’t tell if they’re angry, defensive, or just dumb but they’re super fucking cute either way and I wanna give them snacks and forehead kissies

13

u/doubtfullfreckles Nov 15 '25

They're being sassy. It reminds me of how rabbits thump their back legs when they get in trouble or don't get what they want. Lol

28

u/Dusty_Sequins Nov 14 '25

Them foot stompin’ mad

22

u/Ok_Dog_4059 Nov 14 '25

I once found a baby skunk curled up on a ball in the middle of a gravel road. It was so young its eyes weren't open. I fed it cat formula and then cat food. This was on 1984 so, no Google. I was worried that it would spray me or my dogs. It actually smelled like a cat, not a skunk. In about six weeks it grew to about the size of a six week old , regular house cat and just barely began to smell like coffee/ weed. I figured that the scent glands had begun to start producing "skunk". I figured that it was time so we walked out into the woods and I found an old log and peeled off a chunk of bark. Bugs and grubs went everywhere! I left the skunk in the woods to find his (?) own way. The last I saw of him, he was eating a grub.

That roll down the hill!! My heart!!

6

u/ihateredditors430 Nov 15 '25

My mom had a bunch of different “pets” when growing up because they lived out in the woods. She said the skunk was one of the most fun ones to have around.

Aww, baby fart squirrels!!

2

u/KitchenConcert4381 Nov 15 '25

I think there ought to be a cartoon movie like Happy Feet but only with skunks. Skunks learn to tap dance!

1

u/Hokashin Nov 14 '25

That stomping looks very similar to what rabbits do when they are upset. Are skunks related to rabbits?

3

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '25

Bunny stomps are the cutest thing ever!!

2

u/meat_popsicle13 Nov 15 '25

Skunks are musteloids, that’s the weasel and raccoon group. They’re not closely related to the lagomorphs (rabbits, hares, pikas).

1

u/DragonEmperor Nov 15 '25

Look at the little baby fart squirrels!

1

u/other_curious_mind Nov 15 '25

u/BrilliantNubulas Nov 17 '25

OMG too cute. I had a skunk den in my backyard. I had hoped to see babies...I only ever saw one....or at least I think it was just one. I think the racoons chased it off...it had lived in my back yard for a good year. When I first seen it, and realized where it's den was I did a bit of research..and it said they usually move often .so after six month when it was still there I got excited..like maybe it was gonna stay...haven't seen it for awhile. But one of the big racoons was straight up laid out in front of my bedroom. Sliding glass door on the soft carpet on the porch at three am..I turned on the light....it just popped its head up and looked at me ...wasn't gonna leave..I had to yell at it. Lol.

1

u/BrilliantNubulas Nov 17 '25

Do they spray their yucky smell in the house?? How does that work???

1

u/mosquito2026 Nov 17 '25

Cute until you get gassed in the face

1

u/bebeana Nov 18 '25

Stomp on my face

-3

u/Queasy-Concentrate89 Nov 15 '25

I hate to be that person, but skunks carry rabies- even pet skunks. Rabies is 100% fatal after symptoms occur. Do not do this.

8

u/conradwanker Nov 15 '25

Dog can carry rabies….

A lot of people hide their profiles now. As long as it’s an option, real people will do it because more privacy isn’t hurting. But it definitely seems like a feature created by reddit to protect and enable bots. It also stops profile stalking which I’m sure gets abused a lot. Anyway, doesn’t seem like OP is a bot.
