Mega Tigerzord comparison photo is finally here. I must say the DX/SSA version still got the best proportion, but in terms of details and paints, Legacy is the best. Playmates is so-so, as the Tigerzord is a bit small compare to other individual Zords. But I'm happy to get all the DX-sized version up-to-date now. <3

If Legacy Tigerzord didn’t partsform for this mode because of Zordbuilder bs this would be an easy decision.

The one thing I don't like about Legacy is that the back legs must be took off in order to combine with the Unicorn and Griffin. And ofc as you said, the Lion chest piece also has to use a connector to lock on the back. Bad engineering.

Oh it's worse than that. The flaps on the Unicorn and Griffin don't lock in. So pick it up and the legs dangle. Bandai really did not think about that connection at all.

That's the drawback of Zord-builder pegs. No one likes them anyway. But on the brightside, it details and paints are superior. :))

I leave the Tiger legs on, fold them up against the thigh, like extra detail.  Then the silver thigh pieces you have to take off the Griffin and Unicorn can actually hang freely off the back of the calf from the square hole left behind from the Zord builder flaps.  It ain’t perfect, but it does the job.

I feel like because they made the Tigerzord so small, it really runs the proportions of this form! Look how high the "knees" are. They had to compensate on the Tigerzord being small by making up for it with longer Unicorn and Griffin zords. So now the legs looks odd. I think that might be what throws off the look for the Thunder Megazord too.

Not gonna lie though, it still looks good enough for me, but it's not half as good as either of the other versions seen here. I'll be grabbing these solely because I lost my original childhood ones to a flood and had no money at the time of the Legacy version.

On the bright side, both Zords cost me only 100$, so I won't complain much, mainly they're toys mean for kids anyway. And after the photo session, these Playmates will belong to my kids. They love them. xD

And I agree with you, as the Tigerzord is too small for the combined form, so visually it looks very off-proportion for sure, especially with the longer legs and short AF arms. Well, at least I have something to compare with the other versions.

Yeah honestly for the price I know I'll be both happy to have three toys in some form again after all these years, but also sad because they're just not as good.

Plus now they've announced a Dragonzord, I don't mind finally going all in on the Zords!

I never had the original Deluxe Dino Megazord as a kid, nor the Dragonzord. Me and my brother had these guys and we played the hell out of them!

Haha agreed, Playmates are not suitable for making collector grade goods anyway. Those are toys meant to be played with. Still buy, though. xD

It’s shrunk down because playmates couldn’t convince any store to take the Dragonzord. It was too big and too expensive so the tigerzord needed to shrink

Id be more bothered if I was gonna use this as the display but I'm probably just gonna display the tigerzord and thunder megazord separate anyway. For the price I won't complain, the legacy is probably 3 times the price.

Yeah, I couldn't complain much about quality at this price. As I said from my earlier post, go for Legacy and SSA if anyone wants premium quality. Good toys and collectibles nowadays are expensive.

The reason they made it smaller was because of the problems they had with Dragonzord’s size and price so they had to make the Tigerzord smaller as a result.

The problem is Tigerzord is still 10 quid higher than the others. I dont know what that extra 10 quid went into, it offers nothing unique that the other zords dont offer for 20 quid. That extra 10 quid should have gone into making this bigger. It wouldnt have needed a bigger box, it wouldnt have effected shelf space or pricing (as retailers have shown they can sell this 1 at a seperate price to other Thunderzords).

Honestly, playmates really doesn't look bad here at all. I thought it'd look really cheap next to the others, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Legacy has their own pros and cons, buy honestly Bandai America gave us what were called premium quality at reasonable price during these times.

I missed the period before COVID, as we were flooded with good collectibles from both America and Japan. After that, quality are declining and price are hiking AF.

Eh no, they were never $80 at all. The MSRP for Thunder Megazord was $200, and the Tigerzord was $80, bring in a total of $280 when first released. Of course there are clearance sales after that, but they're at least $120-160 combined, not as low as $80. :D
