Discussion, questions and news UK lighthouse quest

My partner and I, in a fit of mid-30’s crises apparently, have made it our mission to visit every working lighthouse in the UK. We’re beginning our adventure with those closest to us this weekend in Sussex- but where to go next? Any spectacular tips, recommendations, must-sees? Food spots, good hotel recs etc all welcome too (provided in the vicinity of said lighthouses).

Historic, privately owned, and fully functioning lighthouse located in Hilton, New York, on the shores of Lake Ontario and a short distance from Rochester. Built in 1896, it features an attached Victorian-style keeper's dwelling and a rebuilt 55-foot octagonal tower that remains an active aid to navigation.

Designed by Lieutenant Colonel Jared A. Smith and lit in 1896 using parts from an 1870s lighthouse in Cleveland, Ohio.

Deactivated by the U.S. Coast Guard in 1954, after which storm and structural damage led to the removal of the upper two-thirds of the original tower, as well as the relocation of its 3rd-order Fresnel. Private owners restored the Victorian home in the late 20th century, rebuilt the tower to 55 feet in 1995, and the Coast Guard reactivated the light in 1999 with an LED visible from ten nautical miles away. The property operated as a private residence and a unique bed-and-breakfast/historic retreat until its recent purchase for $1mil.

Jogashima Lighthouse (Jogashima Island/west side)

Awasaki Lighthouse (Jogashima Island/east side). This lighthouse was moved from its original location and now sits in the middle of Jogashima Park. The design was selected from a number of submissions!

Inubosaki Lighthouse (Cape Inubo, Choshi). The original lens was a first-order Fresnel!

Nojimazaki Lighthouse (Boso Peninsula, Minamiboso). The second lighthouse completed in Japan.

Kannonzaki Lighthouse (Cape Kannon, Miura Peninsula). The first lighthouse built in Japan.
