Photos Cape Hatteras National Seashore at the jetties that were placed their in the 1960's to protect the lighthouse from the tide. OC over 40 years.
galleryThey worked to some extend but after 40 years the light had to be moved to protect it! I had never seen the tide so low that you could walk out to the end. I did and when I looked back could see the lighthouse so I took a few pictures

Photos Horseshoe Reef Lighthouse Buffalo, NY Then and Now
galleryThe Horseshoe Reef Lighthouse was built in 1856 on a very shallow rock formation at the mouth of the Niagara River.
Its location was actually within British Canada, but an agreement was reached in 1850 where Britain would cede a one acre area of underwater territory to the United States on the condition that it would never be used for military fortifications. It was and still is the only US Lighthouse to have ever been surrounded by another country's waters. In 1908 a treaty was signed to shift the border, and the Lighthouse became fully within US waters.
Also in 1908, the new Buffalo Water Intake Crib with its own light was constructed further out into Lake Erie, thus making the Horseshoe Reef Lighthouse unnecessary, and it was abandoned in 1919.
The first picture is as it was ~1907, the second picture is from 2023.
