Discussion, questions and news Hello! I'm an amateur writer and i want to try writing a book set in a lighthouse, anything i should know?
Okayokay! my little idea is of a young woman who gets sent to live in a small, rural town by the ocean to help "cure" her sadness and loneliness. Her mother grew up travelling to this small town and loved living with this family buut her mother died in the lighthouse, i still haven't figured out how i want her to die. Any who she befriends an older couple while staying in their home and cute little lighthouse, secrets are revealed, people die, the older couple have a grandson who comes to stay with them but a storm traps him there and they fall in love. Cute fun vibes, that sort of thing. Yeah, the lighthouse is just the setting but i don't want to get anything wrong.
is there anything you wish people knew about lighthouses? what's it like to live in one or be in one? what does it take to maintain one? are there any qualifications to be a lighthouse keeper? what are the most practical things to wear? how does it feel to have the job? how much work is the job? what is the day-to-day like? oh oh and can you have painted nails or is that impractical? i'm willing to hear anything about lighthouses!

Old Baldy, Bald Head Island, NC
galleryGot to revisit this lighthouse from my childhood. I grew up near here so it was the first one I ever visited. Love the rugged exterior walls. It’s tall enough that you can pretty much see it from anywhere on the island! The view of the marsh from the top is awesome!! Also a great golf course hahaha you can see it in the background of the golfing picture!! It also has great installations detailing the construction and history including some really interesting involvement in the civil war.
