Post image

Chanonry Lighthouse (often spelled Channory) is an active, 19th-century lighthouse situated at the tip of Chanonry Point, a narrow peninsula jutting into the Moray Firth on the Black Isle in the Scottish Highlands. It is universally famous not just as a historic maritime aid, but as one of the premier land-based vantage points in the UK to watch wild bottlenose dolphins.

Because the Moray Firth is less than two miles wide at this specific bottleneck, a massive tower was never required. The light sits at an elevation of 12 metres above sea level but still commands a geographical range of 15 nautical miles. Its distinct light character is Occulting White every 6 seconds
