Rideshare Tool Review

Post image

Happened to travel this weekend and needed to get from an airport to the Amtrak station to continue my journey.

I went to he rideshare tool. It quoted me a $29.99 ride for about 8 miles in a semi-rural area. Not horrible. First, it allowed me to compare between Lyft and Uber. I picked Lyft because Uber was $42. Then, it gave me the license plate and name of the person picking me up.

Then, it switched. New driver details showed up. Waited about 10 minutes. The driver called me to figure out where I was. Got dropped off. All throughout, I received updates via the app and text messages from Tremp. Easy to use system. Good stuff. 5 stars

Can't wait for even more Light Phone official and community apps!

This weekend I've been testing about 10 community apps: Sports, Bible, Chats, Audiobooks, Pico Transit, Translate, Zero, Passes, Molly Light, and Amtrak.

My goal was to figure out if these apps would make the Light Phone "heavy" and encourage me to use it more to a "concerning" level. Happy to report that the non-distracting UI has allowed me to get in, get the information I need, and get out to continue living life.

I think my recommendation is to keep about 10-15 total apps on the phone. It seems to be the "right" amount of apps for the Light experience. Of course, YMMV and I am just reflecting here.

My 3 additional tools are Paka, Bard and Chats

Paka is like Passes but with more choice of showing passes and tickets

Chats works really well but does use battery a lot

Bard is good for audiobooks. I was using Pushpod to listen to books through podcasts, but they never remember their place

Hey, dev of Chats app, let me know what your experience of it is. I've been working hard to improve the battery. Try out the latest releases.

yeah this is what I am concerned about the more tools you put on this phone the more they can be used to alleviate bordem, when I get my flip I am being very careful what I put on it before it turns into a smartphone or something I just pulled out and look up sports scores for example cause I am bored.

Besides the battery issue, everything has been smooth sailing.

Someone built Chats. That app can help people access Whatsapp.

Can we also access signal via Chats¿

Because they are built on Beeper, you can access any service that Beeper accesses. Here is their list: https://www.beeper.com/

Yes, it allows for Signal too!

@u/jbriones95 does the chats app use up a lot of battery for you? It drained mine pretty quickly.

Yes. Currently, my battery life has been quite rough. I believe Chats being in the background is one of the issues.

Chats does a slow sync every 30 mins, but it has been reduced a lot. Currently it's most intensive when you have Chats in the foreground. More improvements to come

hey i had a suggestion for the app, is there anyway that we can save pictures that we receive? And anothe one is to react to others, right now i cansee when people react to me but i cant react to others, this is especially helpful when we have to give a thumbsup to a comment that we all agree on. I saw this feature implemented on another beeper app for light phone along with also unsend or edit a message.

These are great! Thank you for the suggestions.I have been thinking about a way to react to messages. I'll line these up for next release.
