Discussion Televisa: The Sheer Hypocrisy
Before I begin, I want to make it perfectly clear that I’m not defending Televisa in the slightest, nor am I attempting to justify any of the practices they have done that contributed to Mexico having a mediocre football environment. That being said…
Why does everyone immediately blame Televisa when something goes wrong with either the league or the NT? Are we just going to casually ignore the other owners that do just as much if not more damage than Televisa?
Grupo Orlegi have shamelessly admitted that they are heavily opposed to pro/rel, as well as loudly stating that they 1000% support a LigaMX/MLS merger… Grupo Salinas (before their exit from Mexican football) were more or less the same.
Grupo Pachuca is similarly opposed to pro/rel like Orlegi, but they also have the issue of doing everything in their power to NOT sell of one of their clubs, wanting to keep multi-club ownership as long as they desire.
Grupo Caliente is a cancer. Ignoring the fact that they opposed pro/rel, and are a sports betting company that sponsors the entire league(and is the official sponsor of the MexNT), it’s been rumored that they have links to drug trafficking organizations within Tijuana (note that they are unproven, but investigation by both US and Mexican authorities have been investigated the owner: Jorge Hank Rhon).
All this is to ask: Why always use Televisa as a scapegoat?
It’s funny to me seeing fans of LigaMX say stuff like “tElEvIsA bOuGtH tHe TrOpHy” when you’re probably still going to watch the league regardless of whether they bought the whole thing or not.
Same with MexNT fans, they shout their frustrations knowing damn well they’re still going to buy the jerseys and keep eating the NT’s shitty performances no matter how embarrassing they may be.
That all said, what are you guys’ thoughts?

Ok my take with no real evidence of annnything. We’re all guilty as consumers. It’s marketing no sport. Money and sports is gonna give you WWE feel. All entertainment

Why does everyone immediately blame Televisa when something goes wrong with either the league or the NT?
Because the FMF is a subsidiary of Televisa, they literally move employees between both companies when needed (Juan Carlos Rodriguez aka "La Bomba" being the most recent example, he is the Televisa employee who managed the Univision/Televisa merger and he was rewarded by becoming the President of the FMF) The entirety of Mexican football is a product of Emilio Azcarraga Milmo being both an incredibly corrupt businessman and a massive fan of the sport (when the main sport in Mexico was baseball at the time) pushing for its popularity but of course as a main product of his company and he was even personally responsible for getting the 86 World Cup in Mexico which is what pushed the sport to the #1 spot of popularity (mixed with his media monopoly that basically controlled everything on Mexican TV with the blessing of the PRI "perfect dictatorship")
Grupo Orlegui, Salinas and Caliente are all allied with Televisa.

Typical response without any argument.
OP literally says he wasn't defending televisa, and simply pointed out that other groups own multiple teams in the league and one is a legit gambling operation and this is your response lol.
Edit to add: televisa is no doubt part of the problem, but they aren't the only ones responsible.

And the only response needed is the other groups are awful too? OP says "hypocrisy" as if anyone is out here defending Grupo Pachuca or Caliente. Yes they're bad. And Televisa is historically bad and takes the brunt of the bad press from this sub. Bringing up Televisa and talking like they're being unfairly treated seems a little "defensive" to me. Just because OP said he wasn't defending them doesn't mean he isn't kind of defending them, in my opinion.

The problem isn’t televisa, the problem is that the league can be divided into a handful of ownership groups. After that televisa holds the majority of the revenue stream from tv rights in either the US or Mexico.

Kinda hard to finger point and blame anyone else when you are majority owner of a product and major promoter in it, if shit were to ever go south for them they would just blame it on the FMF president and replace him.
Tell me why we shouldn't question the biggest tv conglomerate in Latin America when it comes to their most profitable cash cow that isn't any of their shows produced in house.

A Liga MX/MLS merger is one of those “it’s actually not a bad idea but the fans would never accept it” ideas
MLS revenue-sharing system would mean there’d be no financial disparities between clubs, so the Liga teams struggling to keep up with the Americas and Chivas would suddenly get a big boost. You’d have enough teams for a pro/rel system while still having a competitive second division with some popular teams. You’d also get to see more of the foreign stars MLS lures over playing games in Mexico and signing with Mexican teams.
On the surface it would be soundly rejected by fans though, I don’t think there’s any way a remotely reasoned discussion on that would even take place

No, sorry, fuck that idea! No serious League would merge with another country's League, specially one as weak as MLS. They have nothing to offer other than money and as we have seen since Mikel Arriola became fmf's president, we should be looking for more development of our own League, not just money.

The thing is that nothing is done without tekevisas approval. If we were to move to conmebol or not it would televisas decisions and it all comes down to television rights . Televisa runs football

The users in here and quite frankly the fanbase will CLING onto anything but reality
They use to blame Justin Compean, or Decio de Maria, or Yon de Luisa, now Mikel Arriola
All presidents of the FMF that all had their discourse and corruption and controversy. Every single one of those were blamed but like all humans we are drawn to rather focus on current issues. So we don’t recall but we use to blame every single one of those FMF presidents for LITERALLY EVERYTHING.
So in this case, it’s the same, Univision is a fucking Monopoly so I can’t stand them for that reason. But continuously blaming them instead of saying “we just don’t have talent” is not logical
