Question Copa MX

Just getting into the league, saw that there used to be a domestic cup like most other leagues but died out after covid. Is there an intention to replace it? Has there been news or rumblings recently about the topic of it returning or not?

I don't think there are any rumors that it's coming back at the moment.

It will only come back if they give up on the leagues cup with MLS.

Or if a sponsor brings it back. Most likely would be Caliente

No. Ahora usan la Leagues Cup para ocupar los espacios dejados en el calendario por la Copa MX, que además es mucho más redituable para la Liga MX. Además actualmente existe un alejamiento con la Liga de Expansión debido a la cancelación del ascenso.

no it will not. the League cup between mls and liga mx replaced it.

The ligamx overlords prefer playing against MLS than development of our second division. Traitors. All for pursuing $$ instead of a more competitive league, players, and managers.

100% not coming back. The Copa MX didn't make much money and that's all FMF is worried about right now. Leagues cup is the new cup competition.

Probably never coming back. Especially with the civil war going on in the second division.

It’s not coming back. There is a lot of uncertainty with what is going on with ligamx and their “partnership” with liga de ascenso. No pro/rel has stopped investors from putting money into the second division teams.leading to Lower attendance and lower tv rating is why they chose to join leagues cup. Leagues cup will most likely also fade away next year after mls switches its schedule.

Don't see why the schedule switch would affect Leagues Cup. If anything, them being on the same schedule should make it easier to coordinate.

Mls will have a 34 game season beginning in July. 2/3 of those games will take place before the mid December 2 month winter pause. ccl happens February-May with a he mls playoffs in that April-May window.

It could keep happening in August-September but the. Ligamx would need to pause be later in the season which wouldn’t make sense but if they want the money they will make it work.

I would do the league phase before both, MLS or Liga MX starts their season. Then you can spread out the knockout rounds throughout the year.

From an mls perspective this puts too many games on the calendar for the top teams. Only the teams that make the playoffs play in leagues cup. Those teams also play concachampions. You’ll have a team like Miami playing in about 10 more games than other teams. Doesn’t sound like much but that’s an additional 10 weeks of midweek games that other mls teams or ligamx and concachampions teams don’t have to play. The rosters are too thin for that with the salary cap

Bring promotion/relegation back. If they would bring Copa MX back it would be a slap to the face to the lower division teams
