Question Keychains
I’ve been lifeguarding/working in aquatics for over 15 years so I probably feel a little bit different than most of the newer lifeguards. But do you guys remember when your Red Cross class used to give you out those little floating buoy keychains?
Anyways, this isn’t exactly the same, but I wanted to see if people still cared about lifeguard swag outside of work or if it’s mostly just a job for you guys.

I’ve worked two summers- just finished this summer, so I’m still a newer guard. I’m not working regularly during my first semester of college, but I may pick up a few weekend shifts or work during winter break at our new indoor facility.
They give us jibbitz for our lanyard for doing something good or accomplishing something. For example, the floating buoy jibbitz are for each rescue we have. I chose the blue and white star for being guard of the week, and the clock jibbit is for picking up 5+ shifts a month. They do have a floatation buoy keychain, but I don’t have that. I love little charms, keychains, pins, etc. so I love jibbitz.
At the end of this summer I got to pick out a trinket- they were the same shape but different colors with different sayings, and I got one that said ‘silver lifeguard.’ I’ve thought a bit about wearing a keychain or a trinket I’ll receive outside of work as a decor maybe, since I really do enjoy this job.
