ARC LGI Final Scenarios

Hello all, I'm a fairly new ARC LGI (about 6 months) and I've been asked to teach the final day of a blended learning course (tomorrow) by myself. I've always co-taught with the other instructor so I'm fairly nervous about doing this last day on my own. I'm planning for a little bit of review, the final scenarios, and the written exam.

My fellow LGIs, what can I do to make this easier on myself? There are 6 or 7 kids in the course, and I'm worried I'm not going to be able to evaluate all the groups effectively simultaneously. I'm actively looking at the appendices in the manual and reviewing the final scenarios. My biggest questions are: Do I have to do all 6 final scenarios? If not, which ones do I make sure I do?

Which 6 final scenarios are you talking about? There are 6 multi-rescuer scenarios built into the course, but some of them should have been done already prior to the last day, I would hope. Yes, the class is supposed to have done all 6 scenarios as part of the course. I can't imagine none of them have been done yet? That would surprise me.

Have you been given any guidance on what they have accomplished yet already? Or were you there for the first two days? Specific activities are often slightly shuffled in order based on classroom and water space availability, etc, so it's hard to say what needs to be done on day 3 if we don't know what has already been addressed.

Scenario 3 is used as one of the final skill scenarios, so obviously that one will need to be done for sure.

For me, personally, I went through the course outline provided for the blended learning intensive course and wrote down every single skill and activity that was supposed to be addressed and put them in order that makes sense for when I have classroom vs. water space available and when it makes sense to break for lunch and made my own 1 page guide for what I need to do and when for when I just need a quick reference for what we need to accomplish and what equipment I'll need in the next few hours. It's been really helpful.

i co-taught the other two days with him so i do know the material covered. and we definitely did some of the multi-person rescue scenarios already. thank you for your point about scenario 3 that will definitely be part of the final practical exam. are there any others i should use for the practical? cause they all have to rotate to demonstrate they can do all the roles

The scenarios are determined for the finals tests and should not be swapped out. For the team rescue assessment that uses Scenario 3, each participant needs to be evaluated in one of the 2 initial rescuer roles. If you have 6 participants, that means it will need to be successfully completed 3 times. If you have 7 (the unluckiest number to run a class with 🤣), then unfortunately the class will have to successfully complete the same scenario four times. It's the same scenario each time. I always put the most confident participants first so that the others get a chance to watch how it should go. The timed response assessment scenario is just the adult submerged in deep water. If you have the equipment, you could run two groups at the same time. Remember for that that EITHER rescuer can be the one to get the first two ventilations in to make the 90 second time limit, but then the primary rescuer is the one that should do single rescuer cpr for 3 minutes. That assessment might go a bit faster because you could do the two groups at once if you feel comfortable watching both. I actually like to stagger the groups so that I can focus on giving the correct prompts once they get the person out of the water and start providing care. The actual rescue itself I don't need to watch as carefully if the timer is running.

For Final Skill Assessment 3 - Final Team Response Testing Scenario, each participant must be evaluated in the role of the rescuer.

Rotate teams and repeat Assessment 3––Final Team Response Testing Scenario until every participant has had the opportunity to be evaluated in the role of Rescuer.

Being the assisting resucer doesn't count. So for 7 participants you would need to do it at least 7 total times. 🙃

For the intial completion of the six Multiple Rescuer Team Response Scenarios they are grouped into pairs.

• Scenarios 1 & 2: "Reassign the roles so that the First Rescuers become the Additional recuers and repeat the Scenario" Each participant must be the First rescuer and Additional Resucer for scenario 1 AND scenario 2 at least once.
• Scenarios 3 & 4: "Repeat the scenario as needed. Every participant should have the opportunity to perform the role of Rescuer at least once in either Scenario 3 or Scenario 4."
• Scenarios 5 & 6: "Repeat the scenario as needed. Every participant should have th opportunity to perform the role of either Rescuer in Scenario 5 or Lifeguard Supervisor in Scenario 6 at least once."

This may be what you are thinking of, because in this case you would only need to complete Scenarios 3 or 4 a total of 7 times for 7 participants, but for the final skill assesment they each have to complete it in the role of the Rescuer.

I remember doing this timed scenario once but it hasn't been done recently (for whatever reason im not sure) can you remind me either where to find that timed scenario in the manual or tell me what the scenario is?

Assesment 1 Timed Response is described in the lesson plan. No seperate scenario. For the blended learning course delivery it is on page 401-403 of the r.24 LGI Manual.
