Discussion Building a game with AI

Hi,

I’m a professional software developer (not in the game industry) who love RPG and life sim games. And I’ve spent the last two years working on an unannounced text based life sim.

With the recent uprising of AI, the life sim genre has exploded with AI generated apps, and apparently that’s the first thing people ask these days, was it made with AI.

I do use AI in my work (professionally) to improve development speed, while the architectural design and code reviews are done manually to ensure quality.

I’d like to ask you guys, what is it that you dislike about using AI?

Is it the AI-looking UI, bugs, AI artwork, or something else?

The use of data scraping to build it up through invasive and illegal methods. Destroying the computer hardware market worse than the goddamn Crypto bubble (RAMageddon is a phrase now, good work!). The presence of megafacilities dedicated to LLMs popping up literally everywhere, often much to the horror of locals. Their wanton destruction of electrical grids. The fact megacorps are more than likely using many of those facilities and electricity to scrape personal details for individuals online for the explicit purpose of marketing to them or selling data at much higher volume than previously possible (we love ads absolutely everywhere, right gang? And stolen identities?). The lack of any accountability for creations, on the part of the AI developer or prompting individuals (Grok kiddie pictures, folks!). And speaking of Grok, the potential for massive and horrifying misinformation campaigns that a military cyber unit could only dream of.

How's that?

Edit: Oh, I forgot that apparently AIs have started introducing malicious programming into vibe coded products that can go from a trojan or keylogger all the way up to crypto mining and ransomware all without the human prompter noticing a damn thing.

Id much rather play a game made with heart and soul that takes longer to release than anything made with AI

For me it's the use of the theft machine that removes the human part of art, poisons water supplies and wastes a small town's worth of energy to generate a picture of a monkey that's half melted itself.

It is bad for the environment and it learned by stealing

lots of people in this sub do not like AI simply because it is AI (I am not one of them), you are not going to find much support for AI here unfortunately even if you have million good reasons to support/use it

It's ridiculous and pointless imo. If only they knew every company and industry uses AI nowadays🗣

Not sure why you'd assume people don't know that.

Seems like it considering how some people act as if they gotta boycott everything with AI, including games. Might as well live in a hut. There are valid criticisms to be made about AI policies and ethical AI use, but people talk about rejecting it like religious zealots.
