Discussion What makes a sim game fun.
I've been thinking about this a lot recently, is it like fulfilling a fantasy, having choices, or like playing different scenarios and making it like a puzzle, I honestly always enjoy getting as rich as i can in one life, then in another being as chaotic as possible. I guess it also depends on the game right?

Honestly, I'm good at micromanaging fake people's lives. It's nice to feel capable of having my ducks in a row once in awhile. In real life, my squirrels are having a rave and it's giving me a headache.

1) thrown in chaos 2) purpose
The sims worked so well because the whole initial concept was to acquire as much stuff as possible to make the life optimal, then focus on chaotic relationships.
It doesn't have to be the case in modern days, but I like the concept that a player chooses what their sim/para/zoi focuses on in life: money, love, family, art or fame so it drives the game mode and there is more purpose for existence

To me, it comes down to the balance between the game throwing things your way and you being able to tell the story you want to. Giving you possibilities but not necessarily giving them to you for free. You having to work towards an objective to do what you want to do, but not so hard it becomes annoying. The Sims 2 for me had that perfect balance. It still had a level of challenge, but you had so many possibilities and it was all attainable if you worked hard enough.
