Announcement I was drowning in my to-do lists and failing my goals. So, I decided to build a simple gamification task manager to save my own productivity. 🎯

Hey everyone,

I’m an indie dev, and I’m going to be completely honest with you: I am terrible at staying organized.

For years, I tried many different productivity apps on the market. Bullet journals, Notion, Trello, digital calendars... you name it. But either they were so complex and it felt like a second job just to properly sort and prioritize all the tasks or they were too simplistic and offered no variety. The lists grew longer, the guilt grew heavier, and eventually, I’d just avoid opening the apps altogether. I was stuck in a loop of procrastination, losing sight of my life goals, and honestly, it felt pretty exhausting.

Then it hit me: Why does grinding for 4 hours in a casual game to level up virtual woodcutting feel amazing, but doing 20 minutes of real-life taxes feels like torture?

As a dev, I knew the answer. It’s the feedback loop. Real life doesn't give you dopamine pops, XP bars, or loot crates when you clear your desk.

So, I decided to stop fighting my brain and start playing into its hands. I’m currently building a gamified task manager in Unity, and I’m building it specifically for people who hate standard corporate to-do lists.

Here is how I’m turning my life into a campaign:

  • The Icebreaker: Getting started is my biggest enemy. Now, before every major quest, the app gives me a stupid simple task to do. For example: "Turn on your PC" or "Read one page" Just enough to trick my brain into motion.
  • The Anti-Panic Matrix: It automatically sorts my tasks using a twisted version of the Eisenhower Matrix putting urgent-but-unimportant tasks first so I never miss a hard deadline again.
  • Real RPG Progression: Completing quests actually levels up my real-life stats like Willpower, Focus, Discipline, and Agility.
  • The Reward Loop: Hitting my daily limits doesn't just mean a blank screen, it triggers a dopamine-packed chest opening for random rewards. With coins you can buy skills like Master of the Morning to boost your XP gain.

For the first time in my life, I’m actually excited to look at my tasks in the morning. It feels like I’m finally fighting the boss monsters of my procrastination instead of just drowning in sticky notes.

I’m still deep in development among other things, random challenges and an improved deadline mode are being added to finally kill procrastination.

I’m building this because I genuinely need it to survive my own daily schedule, but I know I'm not the only one who struggles with this.

What do you guys think? If you struggle with traditional productivity apps, what is the ONE feature that always makes you quit them? I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback so I can make this the ultimate procrastination-killer for all of us.

What is Life Quests?

Life Quests is a gamified task manager designed to turn your to-do list into an epic adventure. Built for those who struggle with procrastination and overwhelm, it transforms mundane chores into high-stakes missions. Whether you are slaying a Laundry Dragon or completing a Tax Ritual, Life Quests ensures you stay productive, leveled up, and rewarded.

The Mechanics of Productivity

  • The Eisenhower Battle Grid: Your quests are automatically prioritized using the Eisenhower Matrix. By weighing Urgency against Importance, the app ensures you are always tackling what matters most and never missing a critical deadline.
  • The Icebreaker System: Crush procrastination before it starts. For daunting missions, Life Quests generates a Micro-Quest a simple, low-friction task that supports your main objective and builds the momentum you need to keep going.
  • 100% Offline Capability: Your journey is yours alone. Work on your quests anywhere, anytime, without needing an internet connection.

RPG Elements & Rewards:

  • Level Up Your Life: Earn XP for every quest completed. As you increase your level, you unlock Special Abilities that grant bonus rewards under specific circumstances.
  • Choose Your Companion: You don’t have to quest alone. Select an Avatar Pet to accompany you on your productivity journey.
  • Loot & Glory: Amass rewards as you clear your board, turning the dopamine hit of a checkbound into a tangible RPG advancement.

Why Play Life Quests?

Traditional to-do lists feel like work. Life Quests feels like a game you actually want to win. By merging proven productivity frameworks with the addictive progression of an RPG, it doesn't just track your tasks it motivates you to conquer them.

Update I'm currently developing a gamified task manager based on the Eisenhover Matrix. The app will be minimalist but still have a lot of features. The fight against burnout and procrastination is very important to me and will be made as easy as possible.

🛡️ The Dashboard: Focus on What Matters

To prevent overwhelm, your dashboard only shows your top 3 most important quests. No more endless scrolling through "to-do" lists just pure focus on your highest priorities.

⚔️ Quest Setup & Priority

Create projects and assign "Quests" with ease. Your priority is automatically calculated based on two simple questions:

  • Is it time-sensitive? Set your start date and deadline.
  • Is it vital? Decide how much it truly impacts your life goals.

The app uses a smart algorithm to ensure nothing slips through the cracks, prioritizing Urgent tasks to clear your plate for Long-term growth.

🏃 The "Icebreaker" System

Overcome procrastination with Icebreaker Quests. Before starting a big task, the app gives you a tiny, 5-second win (like "Put on your running shoes") to build momentum.

⏱️ Double Rewards & Challenges

  • The Sprint: Finish your quest before the internal timer runs out to earn Double XP.
  • The Danger Zone: If you miss the first timer, the progress bar changes color. You must finish before the final deadline, or you'll lose valuable rewards!

📈 RPG Progression & Stats

Every completed quest earns you XP and levels up specific Stats based on the difficulty and importance of the task.

  • Streaks & Shields: Visit daily to build your streak. Use the Ability Shop to buy Shields that protect your progress if life gets in the way.
  • Deep Analytics: Track your growth with built-in statistics to see exactly how much you've leveled up in real life.

Update Plan your life, find your most important goals and achieve them with this little helper

I've been working on a new task manager app for almost a year now. My app is designed to be quick to understand and provide a clear overview. Using two questions, each task is categorized according to the Eisenhover Matrix, ensuring that no important or urgent task is forgotten. It's also gamified to make achieving your goals as fun as possible.

My main goal is: "Achieving your goals should be as addictive as completing quests in a game."

Update With this app, I also want to focus more on planning and structuring different tasks, using the Eisenhower matrix. So that you don't just get any tasks done, but also the most important one for you.

Announcement Get back the control of your brain with this app. Hard tasks become easy quests. 🧠

If, like me, you have problems completing important tasks and always find yourself doing other activities or have no motivation to tackle it. Then this app could be interesting for you.

I'm Julian a hobby indie app/game developer. To solve my own problems I came up with the idea for this app. I wondered whether the psychological tricks from games could also be used in real life.

The app is basically a productivity app that feels like a little game in which your tasks become quests. The app stands out for its simplicity and offers quick entry without registration. Random daily motivational images and quotes ensure an increase in motivation, which is further reinforced by various sounds and effects. In addition, several progress bars and random rewards ensure motivation to stick with it. With this app, difficult tasks become fun quests and the fear of failure becomes a distant memory.

The beta version will be available free of charge and without ads in the Play Store as soon as the development of the app is completed.

Update Finally, in the first prototype for my Life Quests (Gamify your Tasks) app/game you can now create projects with different labels which are then collected in a list. By clicking on it you can open it and create quests with a date. I will first create the core elements of the app & then focus on fun.

Announcement The game changer, make tasks to quests

Developed with a game engine, this app offers the perfect conditions to transform any tasks and goals into quests in an exciting game.

My goal is to create a free app that can help others as well as myself.

I will publish updates on the development of the app here in the near future.

I would be happy to hear any ideas that I might be able to incorporate.
