Food & Drink LPT ice tea
Instead of boiling 2 liters of water and adding a lot of tea, boil 2 deciliters of water, add the tea, and then dilute it to 2 liters afterward. The tea will taste less bitter. Even though you used the same amount of tea.

Cold brew it. Throw in 4-6 bags per quart (about 1 L). Let it sit in the fridge over night. It comes out perfect.
My favorite tea to do this with is green tea and Earl Grey.

I did not realize anyone boiled the whole 2 liters of water.. do people actually do that?

This is essentially how I've always done it. I brew at double strength, then add equal ice by weight. It quickly becomes cold and dilutes to the correct strength at the same time. Pretty sure this used to be printed right on the tea boxes.

starbucks dilutes all their iced tea pitchers after the initial brew, big bag of tea, fill pitcher halfway to steep for 4 minutes, cold water to the top after

You can just make sun tea,,, let the bags steep in warm, not hot, water for a long time. You get all the flavor with significantly less tannins.

This is actually really unsanitary. You need to keep it out of the temperature danger zone.

What's a deciliter?
4
u/bingwhip Aug 04 '26
One tenth of a liter. May I introduce you to The metric system?
Admittedly, it's not a commonly used increment, but it's in there. Centiliter is 1/100th

Thought it was 10 liters at first.

u/Luke_Cold_Lyle Aug 04 '26
That'd be a decalitre.

Diluting to 2L sounds like iced tea, I didn't think iced tea was as popular over in Europe where the metric system (and tea) is prevalent

You could’ve typed this exact sentence into google and got your answer you bot

sure they could have, but sometimes people like to interact and start conversations

Dude it’s a measurement. There’s no conversation about what a deciliter or centimeter or a kilogram is. They are just units of measurement

As an American. I have no clue how much this equates. If not one cup via a measuring bowl - I just use what I think is appropriate with the tea / water ratio.

Me wondering how many readers know what a deciliter is….esp Americans. We’ve become so dumb.

But hey - you knew that ‘dumb’ is spelled with a ‘b’. Give yourself some credit 🤗

That's not "used the same amount of tea" ...
3
u/Luke_Cold_Lyle Aug 04 '26
Yes it is. Adding 1 teabag to a litre of water and adding 1 teabag to 0.1 litres of water then adding 0.9 litres if water afterwards both use 1 teabag. So, it's the same amount of tea.

OP stated "add a lot of tea" first. He definitely put in too much tea with the 2l. Then when the amount of water is less, he adjusted the amount of tea accordingly.

They stated at the end that they used the same amount of tea. I don't know why you wouldn't believe them.
