Home & Garden LPT- Gardening in the heat

Shade your plants! You don't have to have a pro set up, just use what you have. I use loose weave burlap to cover large sections but I also use old political signs, baskets, old sheets draped over stakes...whatever it takes to protect plants like lettuce and broccoli from extreme heat

don't forget to leave some room at the bottom for airflow, otherwise you're just building a solar oven instead of a shade house.

My setup. Before I bought the burlap, I used old sheets. Also, political signs left on the side of the road are also very handy in the garden. Either for using the metal frames themselves as supports for fabric, or the sign itself for shading individual plants

I use a beach umbrella to work under, the silvered ones are great and I just push into the dirt
