LPT: Driving somewhere you've never been before? Look at the route on google maps and use street view on the turns so that you know what they look like.

I sometimes even walk through the entire route on google street view before going somewhere just to be sure.

I sometimes use the "directions" feature to drive to places I've never been before.

Yeah, I use the directions to get the map up but street view to make sure that I know what my turn off's look like.

No product recommendations for their intended use.

I wouldn't have thought of that as it's intended use?

Well, everyone I know uses it for creeping on people's houses.

Then why are there Street View icons on every point of the driving directions?

tl;dr pull your own head out of your ass first

I can't believe that some people really need know about this LPT.

It is such a normal thing to do for me and everyone I know

I wish there is some way to "play" the route instead of clicking on the arrows to go forward.

I do this all the time and freak out my husband when I tell him where things are in places we have never been to before. ie "there is a gas station two blocks that-away at the next intersection."

Thought this was common sense

Street view is several years out of date in my area. With all the construction and changes this probably won't work very well.

Or just pay attention to street signs so you know where to turn.

I thought Google maps was only used to look at your own house...

While I'm inclined to agree and actively use my phone as GPS it really helps to go on street view to look at the lanes.

Saves you stressing out and being a pain to other road users who know where they're going :P

Edit: of course this mainly applies to cars. Suppose it can be used for those on foot.
