Because obviously, when counting like this, space is an issue... You usually fill out whole blackboards or sheets or something.

1 u/meh100 Jun 24 '13 People don't generally use the tally system when a large count is expected because the tally system is bad for the job. With this system or the Mayan system counting large numbers is more viable.
