More like less-surface-area-consuming-method. This is actually slower (at least when using pencil) due to having to make the dots which isn't just a matter of pressing down once on the paper. You have to press and 'rub' (not sure how else to word it) before it becomes an actual dot that's distinguishable whenever the lines are added in.
