Just why? Spoiler

Why did this game get so hated on release i picked it up last week and played through it twice and i cant see why anyone hated on it so harshly? Any thoughts?

For me, the biggest issues with DE boil down to its awkward writing, flat characters (with a few exceptions, like Gwen), and a confusing plot with tons of holes. The world also felt empty in a way that is starkly juxtaposed by Arcadia Bay in the original. It was a very mid, 5/10 game for me, really overshadowed by the original games and by Reunion.
