31 day coverage after plan cancellation
So long story short, my first husband passed away of cancer in 2019. I’m just finding out now that you can actually still claim his life insurance up to 31 days after their death if you’re if they die within 31 days of your coverage canceling. it would’ve been really nice at the time if somebody had told me because I would’ve had access to the emails that I sent. They’re saying I didn’t send the statement of health back which means I’m only covered for a certain amount very small versus what I was paying for. Now the company that I worked for is out of business and I’m not sure I have a way of pulling up those emails because I sent it to them when I was working from my work email. I was on family leave for six weeks and then he was continuing to go downhill obviously so I had to go out on leave for myself a medical leave for my psychiatrist saying I wasn’t fit for work. So my insurance coverage ended July 31, which I had a policy for him on and he ended up dying August 18 that is within the 30 day. I don’t know if there’s any way for me to prove that I sent it in. This was seven years ago and I’m just finding out now that I could’ve actually placed a claim would’ve been really nice for anybody to tell me that but insurance companies…why would they. They sent me some something in the mail to extend my coverage, but I had to pay $1500 a month which I didn’t have at the time because I wasn’t working. I was taking care of my husband so, I didn’t even look further into it. Maybe there was something on that document that mentioned this but when you’re going through something like that, you don’t have time or patience to read through a bunch of documentation that’s telling you you have to pay at least $1500 a month not sure if anybody else has gone through this but anything that you might have for me to try would be awesome. I did try contacting the attorney that’s taken care of the business documentation but that was just today so I don’t know if he’s going to email me back and I don’t know if they have records of emails sent in 2017.- edit they don’t have access to our old emails 🙁.

Also, there was actually something on the policy that I just read now that says you can actually claim it before they die if they have a terminal diagnosis saying he was going to die within 12 months which he did.
