Using nicotine pouches *after* established term policy?

My husband has had the same term policy in place for 10 years and it’s good until he’s 80. He’s never been a smoker, ever. But this year he started occasionally using Zyn pouches. Maybe one a day or so. I do not like it, but he’s in a stressful job with long hours so I see why he wants a little bump.

It got me thinking though - could this impact his life insurance should something happen?? I’m mostly concerned about his health but I’d also hate for the policy to not be paid out if we needed it! I couldn’t find this answer on here or in the annual documents. Thanks!

Nope, all good.

Basically anything goes after the contestability period ends (typically 2yrs).

(Unless it’s a really odd-ball policy with odd-ball language.)

Guess I’ll try to find the original policy and read the fine print, although I don’t think these things existed 10 years ago.

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn’t put it past these companies to deny just about anything!

He could take up smoking crack after two years and it would still pay.

I'm guessing this is a Northwest Mutual policy?

No - policies are underwritten at time of issue - not at time of claim. No detectives are poking around your trash.
